I was already on the way out because I have a Bronco Badlands coming in, but on 2/28 I was rear ended. I was moving at 50mph, drunk driver flew up behind me at 75-80, hit me, and took off when I pulled over. Dash cam caught teh plate, but it was temp tags registered to a fake LLC (major issue here in Texas). Initially, damage didn't look too bad and my estimate was $2900. I had to wait until 3/28 to leave it at a shop since it was drivable and everyone's backed up. I saw the hitch was tweaked, so I suspected frame damage. I was right.
Ended up being the box was buckled pretty good as well as pretty significant frame damage in the rear. They were going to section it, but I told them I wanted a full frame and not one that was cut in half and welded back together since it was such a new vehicle. My estimate shot up to about $19k and they made the decision to total the truck. It was beneficial to me - they paid out $46,800 on a truck I paid $38k for last year. Luckily I returned my bumper, sliders, lights, etc to stock and already pulled my rack and RTT off.
Hard to imagine this totaled it, but the truck did its job. I had zero injuries.
