I've been following this guys channel for a while, but his most recent video...

I just find myself just straight pissed off.

I know there are all kind of variables, but for face value it really drives the questions home if companies just rip us off everyday because they can, not because of any innate value built in.

McDonalds for example charges us over 50% more for the same hamburger meal than overseas.

The average wage in Japan is about half the US, so pick your poison.
Yup....they make much less, so have much less to spend. McDee's labor costs aren't anywhere near what they are here so they can charge less.
Add to that, majority of average sitizens line in 247 sq ft apts or houses that are smaller than my garage. Narrow roadways are not large vehicle friendly, and every other week there is another earthquake....sooner or later, parts of Japan and California will meet in the middle of the Pacfic.

Different economic system. As Joeicinic said, wages are a lot lower the US.
I saw a video a few years ago. Someone was interviewing Japanese people in the streets.
One thing that stuck with me was a schoolteacher that said wages should be higher, $600 a month wasn't enough.
and then there's China.....

I get that, but a company is a company, they would not operate without profit, regardless of local economic bubbles. That should piss you off even more in this case. I think it is more of a case of "We either play ball with Japan's bubble, or we just make zero and not be here".

I wish American's would be as stern.

I know, wish in one hand, shit in the other - see which fills up first. Just a late morning rant.

But their prices...what they charge in a certain area, is based on the local economy...thats the reason here in Va a McDees meal may cost $9 bucks, and the same meal in NY City costs $16 or $18 bucks.....cost of business in NY City is much higher than Va....property, labor, delivery costs cost more in NY City than in Staunton Va.
In Japan they may pay their workers a few bucks an hour, here in Va the same worker gets $16 and in NY City they may get $20. The company will adjust their prices accordingly to mesh with what the local market is capable of.
No matter where or what they charge, they are making a profit....even the new $5 buck meals...their making a profit.
