Just an update:

Ordered Feb 2022 / Built Aug 20 2022

2022 Lariat - Supercrew -Cactus Grey - Non FX4, Non-Locking Diff MSRP: 43,175
My only options added were 501a and Tow Package - out the door price 40,500 plus Taxes/Fees
w/ Auto Start (-50) and now Halogen Headlamps / Fog Lamps (-500) also had incentives for ordering

It's hard to walk away, as dealer inventory Trucks are well above MSRP. used Rangers are above my out the door price as well with 15k to 50k miles on them. (Lariats Only) so what should be an exciting experience has turned into a sour one. especially since I have never bought or ordered new before.

I do have a dealer (different dealer) in the area that will buy my truck from me and sell me one that has LED's but it has the FX4 package, when it's all said and done 3,000 more for the (FX4)
Selling for 51,000 - 48,000 (for my truck) = 3,000. They are offering more than I am paying for it but it's going toward a truck with a marked up MSRP and they will in turn sell mine for more than 48,000. It's how dealers make money in today's times
I did drive it and I noticed that it appeared to drive different than the non FX4 version It's been over 6 months since I drove one though. I have read that it's a known issue, but swapping shocks out takes care of it. (Bouncy Ride)
Plus: I noted that the Hood (Hold Open) Struts were removed and replaced with Hood Prop. But it has LED Headlamps / Fogs (yea)
So, either way I will be spending over 3,000 more. I think i might just keep my truck buy the LED's After Market / Factory / Ebay with broken tabs and install them as the dealers don't care if you walk away because they can sell it over MSRP and make more money from it.

Decision Time? After Market LED vs Factory LED (Which is better?)

Thanks for the space to RANT my frustrations

Very pleased with my 2019 Lariat. I added the following, mostly from the Ford Accessory Catalog:

1. . . .
12. Ford Tailgate Damper

13. ASC/Signature Moonroof install scheduled for the 20th of September

It's obvious I have a substantial investment -

If your dealer didn't install and charge you for the tailgate hinge lock perhaps you should spring for it now.

I'm hoping my dealership can help me with the LED issue. We have discussed it a couple times and I have done business with the Dealer President for a number of years. I'm hoping he'll be able to assist. I have looked at the window stickers of a number of other Ranger Lariats out on area dealer lots and there is no mention on them of the Halogen downgrade like there is on my window sticker. This means one of two things. Either Ford is only deleting them on custom ordered Lariats, or, Ford has deleted these from the Lariat design altogether while keeping the price the same as it was with them. In other words, if it is a dealer ordered Lariat, it won't have the LED but you'll pay the same price as if it did. Purchasing LED replacements for these trucks costs more than $3500 (each LED headlight assembly is $1666.67, each fog light is $186.17). Those that ordered it special like I did get a paltry $500 for the involuntary downgrade.

If anybody out there reading this has any suggestions, by all means, include them her please.

I read where it was 'decontented' after 1965. :(

Wondering if there will be a legitimate improvement as I attempted an LED upgrade with halogen projectors on my Triumph Sprint Motorcycle. Result? Brighter lights but less light projected onto the road due to the different bulb/reflector geometry.

Same with an acquaintance. Late '80s Goldwing with a halogen reflector. He also tried a LED bulb replacement - same results. LED Bulbs tend to be longer due to whatever cooling apparatus is mounted on the end.

I picked up an out of inventory Lariat 501A packaged truck this week.

Here's my window sticker.

and here's my lights.

Build date for my truck is 8/22, so it was made within the last 30 days. No idea how they determine which lariats were picked to get the LEDs, and which get skipped.
To be honest, if I had ordered it with the understanding that I would be getting LED headlights and they were to take them away and only credit it $500, I would walk away.

So far, it looks like the only trucks that Ford is deleting the LEDs from are those that are custom orders by customers. I have not yet seen a Lariat sitting on a lot with the Halogen downgrade. So, Ford is specifically targeting the customer that wants their truck a certain way and telling them, "no, you can't have that." And to add insult to injury, they won't address the issue - anywhere - ever. They just do it.

After just reading this I went and looked at my sticker of my two month old truck. No LED lights. LED headlights is one of the many reasons I wanted a Lariat.

Greg,

Here is a side by side comparison of the two headlamp styles. Does yours look like the upper version or the lower one?

Don,

That is an option of course. The reflectors of the halogen assemblies are not engineered for LEDs though so I'm not sure that it will make a huge difference there. There are some videos linked from some of the Ford pages that give simple guidance on the aiming and positioning of the beams for the headlamps. The directions vary a bit between halogen and LEDs. It may be just because the LEDs are generally brighter and you don't want them blinding oncoming traffic.

I am going to push all I can to get Ford / dealer to replace the halogen in my truck (that I haven't even gotten yet) to the LEDs that were engineered for it.

I hear you. I had a 2011 F-150 that was well customized. The dealer offered 13K in trade and said they would likely put it out on the lot for 16K. I chuckled a bit as I figured they would put it out for a lot more than that. I listed it myself for 18.5K and sold it in a week for 18K. I also have a 2015 Focus that I was going to trade and they offered 11K for that. My sister-in-law wants to buy it for that price so I will likely sell it to her. My truck was built this week. Just waiting on it to arrive. I am not happy with all that Ford deletes from the custom orders or the SuperCabs. It's like they (Ford) don't want folks to order vehicles from them. They just want to send their choices out to the dealers so the dealers can jack up the MSRP and screw the customers even more.

Looks your truck was actually built on August 9th. (Top center of window sticker, 220809)

No notice from dealer that this is happening (I blame my salesperson / order taker and not the dealership as this dealership is very well regarded here), but I'm wondering if the $500 credit is sufficient.

Are there any other Ford cars / trucks where LED headlights can be added as an option, and if so what is the option priced at? When I custom ordered my Mini Cooper years ago, LED headlights were a $1000 option.

Or, should we press Ford to offer us a "go to the dealer after delivery and have the headlight assembly be swapped out for $500 installed" option when more LED assemblies are available?

I'd be more unhappy about the no choice delete by Ford (other than walking) if this vehicle will see very little use - my current truck is 21 years old and only sees about 3000 miles a year if that. The Ranger is replacing it so I can tow a horse trailer in a CA fire emergency - the horse that I do not have yet and will be gotten as part of the "happy wife, happy life" program ;)
Let’s face it Ford is all about EVs, filling Bronco orders and Raptors. My current truck is a good vehicle as far as my next I don’t plan on buying a lightning so doubtful it will be a Ford. I think Ford needs to build less vehicles that are properly optioned out and stop coming up with a million packages. Lariats should not leave the factory without LEDs in 2022. Also feel they should be standard on all but work/fleet vehicles. Ford needs to get there shit straight and fix their supply chains before bringing out new models.

Like I have said in social media, the only thing Ford pays any mind to is hype for their new vehicles and when customers GUSH over their own Fords. Questions or concerns expressed are completely and utterly ignored. I believe as you do regarding what Ford SHOULD be concentrating on. But, since we are not the CEO or on the BODs, our opinion means exactly nothing.

I agree. It can't be any worse than the factory halogen bulbs they install. Good luck.
I've seen a few Ranger Youtube videos on them and they seem to do quite a bit better. With that said, 80 bucks and a real world test will be the deciding factor.
