Thankfully, no seat issues here. My Ranger is very, very comfortable. I do feel for those with back pain though.:frown:

The clips are under the seat pan. For you, I suggest removing the seat. Mine is not power.

Important to note is most airbag equipped cars now will throw a SRS code if you disconnect any electrical connectors under the seat if the key is on. It won’t reset with a basic code reader, you’ll need a scanner that can specifically read / reset air bag codes. I’ve learned this on BMW, Land Rovers and Mercedes. Ford May be different but just beware.

I’d recommend going to an upholstery shop you can trust.

IMO this is something of an oversight by Ford. I drove my lighting the other day and it was 10 times better and it’s a 94. How can a new car not correctly support a regular build driver? Avg 5’10” - 180 lbs medium build. I can only imagine what is like for a larger frame person.

All of my other cars and trucks have better support. That said, my mod is much better than factory.

Still mind bending on how to keep the Airbag design spec and installing the Recaro’s
Well, went and got the seat foam modified.

They put a strongmaterial backing over the springs then also created a wedge of foam layers to put over the top foam.

It actually is a bit too much support especially with that stiff leatherette but I feel it is loosening up a bit. The good news is my back pain while driving is alleviated.

One thing about these seats and the truck in general is you can tell it has been adjusted for American bodies and tastes. The seats in the ROW Ranger are more firm with better bolstering. The ROW truck is tighter less floaty as well. Still, so far, the US Ranger is a nice cruiser. Just doesn't inspire taking an on/off ramp very fast.

Yes, I traded my Tacoma for the Ranger and the seat in the Ranger is far better. No comparison!

Take a look at pages 115-119 in the owner manual for Ford's suggestions and controls. I find the seats comfortable. Way more comfortable then the Colorado or Tacoma I test drove, but not as comfortable as any full size truck. I raised the base seat using the lever on the side (manual seats) to get the seat even better. Like a jack.

One of the reasons I chose the Ranger is the seats. You want to fell uncomfortable seats try a GMC Canyon. They are like sitting on a rock.

I tried out a Colorado and found them too soft and too flat. Maybe they changed them up.

I have always loved firm support. My mattress is firm, I just bought replacement firm seat cushions for my couch and now that the Ranger seat is fixed, it too is super firm (a little too firm at this point)....You'd probably think the Canyon seats are cushy compared to the way my seat feels now haha. I spent hours looking for the right recliner and found one that is firm and supportive.

If I thought I was going to keep the truck long term and use it on long road trips, I'd spend the money and completely redo/customize the seats. As it is, I just have to sit in them for max 45 minutes at a time and with the modification are tolerable.

It's pretty obvious the seats are designed to be acceptable to a majority of people in the US, so, at least judging from the comments here and most reviews, Ford has done a good job.

Reviving this. I bought my Ranger in April this year and I have to say the Lariat seats are so much more comfortable!

The XLT cloth seats without adjustability are terrible. I drive 40+ hours a week and my back is killing me with these seats.

I'd pay anything to get a different seat. The bottom is too flat and doesn't support my thighs, the back is too flat and the neck is too far forward. My Fiesta ST Recaro seats were amazing because of their bucket shape.

Still searching for solutions, but will post once I find something.

You're so right about that! The seats in the Tacoma are like that old chair you had in your first apartment, old and worn out! Lol Anything over a 30 minute drive and my back was killing me. These seats (for a truck) are the most comfortable I've owned. Sure they could be better but a stock seat they're very comfortable.

You do know how to adjust the headrest and lumbar? (Many people have not.)

On my first 40 minute commute to work in my new ranger i felt the same way. I was thinking the seats were uncomfortable. But a few more adjustments and a weeks worth of driving they are fine. I would say i'm about average size and weight, 6ft 220lbs. I think size and build may have an effect on how comfortable you are in a given vehicle/seat. If i was a little taller and i don't think i would be able to be very comfortable in this truck. Are they the best seats i have rode in? No. Are they the worst? No. I would say they are about average in comfort, They are fine for what these trucks are marketed for. Could they be a little better? I would say yes. My only real complaint is there are no armrests, which will get tiring and annoying on long trips. And when i get the seat adjusted far enough back the steering wheel is just a bit far of a reach. I probably am going to try to figure out some kind of arm rest fix for when i go on longer trips.

There is a telescoping steering column on all Rangers, Use the same lever as the tilt function and pull the wheel back.

I did telescope the wheel back as far as it would go, and it's about 1.5 - 2 inches short of being where i would like it. It is fine where it is for shorter trips, but without an armrest i think it will get annoying on an all day drive. Honestly, part of it is probably just me being picky, i drove my old avalanche z71 for the last 7 years and will just have to adapt a bit to the new ride. The avalanche had electric adjust pedals, and i moved them as far forward as they would go, which let me have legroom with the steering wheel in a comfortable spot. I love my new ranger though, just have to get used to it for a bit.
