Turbo smart BOV

I don’t know much about turbos so I wanted to see if you guys had any thoughts on the matter. My truck is brand new less than 200miles on it so far. I want to put on the turbo smart BOV because I was told it is better for the engine than the stock BOV. Should I wait until I have more miles on the truck or should I put it on now?

Question. When I push on the gas pedal, it sounds kind of funky. Not like there's an issue, but just weird. Is that the bov making the sound? It's done that since I bought the truck.

A BOV vents to atmosphere, basically releases the pressure out of the charge pipes back to the outside air.

A DV is a diverter valve, it recirculates released pressure back into the low pressure (before turbo) of the intake.

Recirculating back to the intake can reduce lag between shifts & when going full to part & back to full throttle. Whether there’sa benefit for our trucks, I’m not sure.

I had a recirculating valve on my Rotrex supercharger on one of my car builds. I didn't like it, but it's different for a super, over a turbo, since the super is always making boost, as long as the belt's spinning.

I like the release to atmosphere BOV sounds though, but they're not ideal for a supercharger.

I'd prefer to install BOV on my '21 Ranger as well :)

The purpose of the valve is to relieve pressure when the throttle is closed to keep the turbo from going into compressor surge. They either work, or they don't. OEM valve sometimes become and issue when more than OEM boost is run, and they start to leak under boost.

As for a BOV vs DV/BPV... On MAF vehicles, valves vented to atmosphere will have a quick rich condition after closing the throttle under boost, as metered air is vented. This generally can give pop or flame out the exhaust. On speed density cars, you generally do not have this issue as the intake temp and MAP sensors will see the load change in the plenum [where a MAF car has measured the air upstream of the engine].

Venting boost back into the inlet of the turbo compressor can help with boost recovery, if that has any value to you.

Get the GFB DV+ instead

Don't waste your air for a cool sound, recirculate it :)

I recently had to change out the BPV on my fairly new turbo RZR as I had turned up the boost, and when heat started setting in, you could hear the BPV leaking. I opted for a TurboSmart, but kept the BPV/DV function as I wanted to ensure dirt is kept out of any tract, it keeps it a closed loop system, and I don't care for the rice noises. :)
