Well, two years ago, I took delivery of my brand new ordered, lariat in hot tomato.
Old me thought, the paints party fresh. Let's protect the door edging. What's available these days? I'll take it off after a year or so. Got around to it after two years and I still have not been able to get it off.

Alcohol, Goo Gone, WD-40, a touch of brake cleaner.

The alcohol seemed to work, but it is still gooey!

Take a heat gun or wife's hair dryer. Low heat and run it up and down to soften the "stuff" and peel it off like your unrolling a uugghh "laytex protector"

This, plastic razor blades will work great if one trusts themselves with it.

Lot safer than reg metal blades, but will **** your **** up quickly if you're not careful.

As has been said - hair dryer and the plastic razor blades.

Slow and steady is the name of this game.

Using tar remover when you're done, followed by a "wash" (I'd use a rinse less on the area only) dry check the paint to see how much damage is done, clayvit, wash it and protect it...

Be careful with harsher chemicals on the paint, they will soften the clear coat and make things worse in the end... Also, thoroughly rinse any chemical off to neutralize it before adding a different chemical... I don't know how each chemical will interact when mixed together, and you don't wanna be the Guinea pig for mixing goo gone and chemical X makes poison gas...

Also, you want to just warm the adhesive, not melt it.

I specifically said hair dryer because of the damage a heat gun can cause if it's not used properly.

A hairdryer on a medium setting will take longer than a heat gun on medium (different scales). I think of it like cooking - low and slow is the way to go.

In this case it's the metal door edge, and probably won't melt any plastics, but to much heat coukd cause damage to the paint itself that would need to be polished or sanded to have any chance of being corrected...

You may think I'm nuts, but an old car dude told me about this stuff and it really works wonders. And it's cheap, think you can get it at Walmart. Pure Citrus air freshener dissolves sticker residue along with wiping out the gum. Worth a try, stuff this is better than Goof Off, smells good and not oily. Good luck

You could try a decal eraser wheel. I've used them to remove the sticky foam when I take off emblems or decals. Easy to use, doesn't affect the paint, and nice to have in the tool box. I've had the same one for 10+ years.
