Transmission to be pulled for the 3rd time.

My 2005 Ranger is still on the road today and still looks brand new. My neighbor uses it as his daily driver. The 4.0 L engine is great. My new 2024 Ranger has a 2.3L hope its as great ?
The 2024 has a different transmission than the 5g rangers.....hope thats great too?
Any thoughts?

On Saturday I picked up a 2017 Nissan Frontier SV. Has 48,000 miles on it. V6 auto. The dealer put new brakes and rotors front and back and put new tires on it. No sensors front or back (yea!) The only downfall is that it doesn't have a backup camera but i am installing on this week, waiting from Amazon to deliever it.

Those are great trucks I traded a 2019 in on my Ranger.

I've noticed a trend lately and I think it may be related to the number of Rangers that are now going out of the 5 year drivetrain warranty.

I've had my truck almost 6 years.

Throughout that time, my KBB trade in value has been close to what I paid for it new (I bought it at the end of 2019 and with all the rebates and incentives got it for almost $11k off sticker).

Lately it is dropping rapidly, like $1000 a month.

2 months ago KBB was saying my trade in was worth $29k+ on the high range.

Today, with a whopping 1100 more miles

Maybe it would be worth more since it has a new transmission and the HVAC fix has been implemented, but I doubt it.

Out of curiosity, I also specced out a 2019 Colorado as close as I could to my 2019 Ranger and the trade in value was $2k more.

I think the Ranger values will fall off a cliff soon.

@Dr. Zaius what is this " HVAC fix " you refer to?? I searched the Forum and did not find a specific reference to what it is or what's involved. Please advise... Thanks.

(PS: Kept looking... is it the "HVAC box warped " issue?? I can't quite figure out how a heater box would warp, but there seems to be a number of references to it.)

The heater box in the dash warps and binds on the blend doors, causing noise and poor temp control

My truck was occasionally giving 72 degrees out of the driver side and 120 degrees out of the passenger side before Ford finally fixed it.

If I hadn't purchased the extended warranty, this fix would likely have been $2k+ since the entire dash has to be removed to install the $300 part.

I think buying an extended warranty on the replacement transmission is a must, especially if you love the truck OR have $5k saved up for repair.

Trade in value only matters if you're looking to sell. Or buy something else. There are those here who wouldn't mind driving the wheels off the truck.

I test drove a Tacoma when I was shopping around before I went with the Ranger. I know Toyota is all hyped up but I wasn’t really impressed with it. The one I tested (can’t remember what year it was) drove like crap. Suspension was stiffer than 2x4 lumber and the interior felt and looked kind of cheap. By the time I went around the block, I told the salesman I wasn’t interested but thanks for letting me try it out.

I’m not Toyota guy but what’s the deal with Tacoma’s? Seems like everyone and their brothers drive one. Am I missing something?? lol

I concur with your on the Taco's driving experience, I once test drove a '20, after being seated in it I immediately hated it, the rearview mirror was practically in my face and blocked a substantial view out of the truck.
Additionally the V6 it was supposedly powered with honestly felt like a naturally aspirated 4 cyl., acceleration was best described as "leisurely".

Indeed Toyota's are very popular in Hawaii, on Oahu in particular there is just one distributor for the brand, including Lexus.

That would be Servco Toyota/Lexus, they have monopolized the market since the marque was introduced in the USA.

As for Spam consumption, Guam actually surpasses Hawaii with per capita consumption, Hawaii is the highest consumer within the 50 states, however.

A good buddy of mine originally from Jacksonville, FL abhorred the canned meat, citing that it is made from the "ass****s and eyelids" from a hog...lol.

There is a very popular snack here called "Spam Musubi", it consists of cooked, sticky rice formed into a rectangular block with a fried piece of spam attached with a sheet of seaweed wrapped around or "nori" as we call it.

All the convenience stores, supermarkets and small restaurants here sell this local favorite, made fresh daily by the thousands...yes thousands.
