I have a 2020 with 26k that has begun to experience weird shifts, slipping, and surging. Replaced the sensor as some threads have suggested but it didn’t fox the problem. My warranty runs out in July…I wonder if it’s worth it to bring it in? Currently, I am not getting any codes and aside from driving it, I doubt the dealership would take it for a test drive. Thought?
Two unrelated issues...DPFE sensor is to fix engine drivability issues...miss shifts, slipping clutch, slamming gears related to the transmission are on another level of hurt...go have it checked or start saving...

i would bring it to a dealer and at least tell them whats up with it and see what they say. if nothing else at least it was documented you had the issue ahead of warranty going out.

I just traded my 2020 Ranger in on a 2023 because of those issue you're having. They started with like missed shifts at 30k and kind of limp mode, by the time I hit 89k it slammed into gear a few times or wouldn't shift at all like it couldn't find the gear. Ford said rebuild and 3-4 weeks in the shop.
The weird shifts etc are all signs it needs a rebuilt or at least a shift control module.
There was a class action suit filed against Ford about this transmission in May 2023. Not sure where it will go but apparently there are many of these bad transmissions. Too bad such a great truck.

Maybe it’s all that extra weight (tie-downs, engine covers, glovebox dampers, and such).

I kid but when I was heading back up to the cottage yesterday, I pulled out to pass a slower vehicle, just as I had done a couple of times earlier in the drive, and nothin, wouldn’t downshift or accelerate, just bogged down and sat there. Tucked back into my lane, pressed the shifter button to bring the gears up on the display so I could keep an eye on things. All seemed fine and a few minutes later, I tried it again - took off like a shot and rocketed past the slow car - just like every other time.

I’m hoping it was an anomaly, but these stories have me watching for warning signs and thanking my stars I have an extended warranty.
that is kinda scary. in my area people drive fast, too fast and you have to hammer down to merge into traffic safely or get smashed. i hope the truck does as it should when my tails on the line.

currently waiting on a new valve body for mine, took it in due to hard shifts and just overall weird ass 10r80 things lol. even with a the ford tune it shifts like crap. Trans tech drove it one time and said yep looks like were replacing the valve body, along with new fluid and filter. good excuse to go ahead and order the deep trans pan i guess.
so after they do the repairs would you look under your truck and see if you can see any sign of work being done please? like bolts showing a bit of wear, fluid drips, stains etc. that one would expect when something has been changed.
reason i ask is last weekend i changed the oil in my 5g. while i was under the truck i noticed how my transmission stuff looked like it was never touched. no wear or marks on anything. all the hardware evenly coated in as much dirt and grime as the rest of the underside heat shields in place the works. the only thing that looked touched was the dipstick cap and that was from me! Im suspicious the dealer did nothing to mine at all just did the flash and sent me down the road...

Yep, I traded my trans slipping 2020 Ranger with 95k miles on it for a 2023. My 2020 was a great truck until the dreaded trans issue (damn trannys). I got a good price for trade in ($24k) and they had a white one that I wanted. I use the truck for work mainly in San Francisco and Oakland Ca. The truck really took a beating on the roads and driving 8-10 hours a day, traffic, potholes, assholes etc. I just really couldn't go 3-4 weeks in a loaner in both those cities. I would have gotten Jack'd or windows broken into weekly. Rentals have a different year tag in Ca. and the thieves know it so they assume you're a tourist. Thus, easier to get a new one and move on.

Very generous estimation, most places here in FL are a year out due to lack of transmission techs and the intergalactic forever backorders. If that helps you with your decision to trade.

It’s not just the 10 speeds. I had an 07 F150 that lost its transmission in the 60k mile range.

There seems to be issues with these 10 speed autos. In Australia there was a recall on brand new trucks with front pump failure, some transmissions literally failing just after driving off the dealer lot or within a couple of months. Many people report rough shifts, slipping or missed shifts as well. Perhaps Ford should have just licenced the ZF 8 speed like they did with the ZF 6 speed for the 6R80 box. instead of trying to design a new one. Does the GM version have the same issues?
Yes. The Canyon/ Colorado has had a couple class action lawsuits filed over the 8 speed. None went anywhere but it’s still a big issue. The 6 speeds in the diesels are even worse.

Honestly, if you had issues while in warranty, and ultimate failure happened after I'd argue they shoudl be covering it all. With them covering 60, it's not worth it, but if they had not I would definitely have consulted a lawyer & worked to gather documentation of the issue (and Ford's failed attempts to repair).
Ford seems to be very creative when it comes to the almighty dollar. I'd almost call this VA math.

No surprise here-GM has a history of playing drivetrain roulette. They put the absolute trash VTI transmission in around 150,000 Saturns and when their failure rate approached 100% their solution was either to buy your vehicle back with $5000 toward another GM vehicle or offer a one-time, 50/50 replacement with a used trans that had a 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty. Let's do the math here: with Option 1, my car was paid off but the transmission was blown. GM offered me five grand off the $30,000 or so it would have cost me to buy another vehicle that I would have had to pay off all over again. Option 2: GM would have gone in halfsies-that's $2500 each-on a used transmission that had a 12/12 warranty. If that one failed after that I was SOL and if it failed before that I was SOL. This BS is the reason why I left GM forever and went with Ford. Too soon old, too late smart, I guess...

Oh, and I sold the Saturn to a family who took it back to Mexico. They told me that down there someone had figured out how to put a standard trans in the VTI platform, which was something Saturn couldn't do here because the VTI was Googled into every aspect of the electrical system. Tech for its own sake is the Devil.
