Hey y'all!

I was on a longer road trip driving through some mountains, using the adaptive cruise control and it was really stepping on the gas and downshifting a bunch of gears. Near the peak I started getting rough shifts in 7-10th gear. After a little while I got a check engine light, pulled over and it was dripping a decent amount of fluid. I let it cool off and after a while the light went away and it seems to be fine now. Smooth shifts, not seeing dripping fluid, maybe just residual fluid collecting on the bottom.

Bottom seal looked fine, seemed like it was only leaking from the top, where I think the vent is?

Note: I got the fluid and filter changed Monday by a standalone shop (today is Friday). I'm thinking they may have overfilled it? It felt perfect after I got it back from the shop. Felt even better than before I took it in. 60k miles on truck. Changed fluid and filter last at 30k.

I called a local Ford dealership and the guy said it sounded like I overheated it.

Yep, like @Stevedbvik1 said, thermal runaway and foamed fluid.

Clean up the underside, properly check and set the level and carry on. Most survive unscathed.

It would be hard to fault the shop, our 10R80's are hard to check levels on. At least they didn't underfill it. As long as they used the ULV fluid! (Not Universal 😐 )

I hard core over heated mine around 20k miles... to the point of seeing light blue smoke behind the truck, I let it cool and kept going, didnt change the oil, never had it checked, never had another issue I am at 60K now...
She is giving me her all and I ride her hard and put her away wet, I am sure I am in the top 10% abuser of these trucks and it just keeps going somehow?
