Has anyone else experienced their transmission skipping 2nd gear entirely? I’ve never seen mine go into it. I have under 1000 miles. It always goes 1,3,4,5,6,7 etc. no matter how slowly I accelerate.

If you watch the gear icons it skips a bunch of gears under odd circumstances. It's normal for it to skip second almost always though. It won't when you're really into it, or when you're towing a load.

That’s the trouble the more slowly you accelerate the more likely it is to skip gears. It is normal for this transmission to skip gears. Accelerate more heavily and it will use 2nd gear.

Here's another "Yeah, mine does that, It's normal" answer just to solidify the others. :)

This is NORMAL!!!!!!!!!

You may not like it but it is normal. Why is it normal? The gears are so close and the computer determins wich gear you need. If you step on it hard from a stop you will hit 2nd then 3rd and so on. If you decide you want to kind of eliminate that then get a tune from a reputable tuner like Livernois or Ford Performance and you have a more sporty feel but it is a pain sometimes

IIRC when Chrysler 1st came out with their 9 spd in the Grand Cherokee - according to reviews it didn't seem to ever use 9th gear - I think 7th and 8th were already overdrive ratios.

This is the same for the GM 9 speed transaxle. During development of the joint GM/Ford design, you had to be going over 90 mph, downhill with no driver input. For this reason Ford dropped the high gear and only have a 8 speed design.

I think Ford's official response was there was no performance or efficiency gains so they removed it to "save weight" ?. I am pretty sure it saves a few dollars also.
