The answer actually brings conflicting data:

Owner's Manual = 23.67 fl oz's

Service Manual = 1.20 qts or 1.13 lit - and yet another states 1.20 lit

So bottom line = Fill to Spill and have about 1.5 qts (ready)

Don't worry just fill it until it comes out the hole. How much to buy? A couple of litres should be plenty, I've done mine but can't tell you exactly because I pumped it from a 5 litre bottle of Transmission fluid. Don't bother to buy new plugs either, even though Ford say toss them and buy nice new shiny ones pre-covered with teflon sealer. Just buy a tube of Loctite 592 or similar and clean and re-use your existing ones.

The drain plugs for the trucks in NA have one-time-use crush washers. No sealer is used. My wife's Escape uses sealer on the PTU (basically a transfer case) so maybe Australia uses the same set up?

That's interesting ours uses tapered plugs with sealer, although there is a machined face around the plug hole so you could also use a crush washer if you had a flanged plug.
