I drive with tow mode on exclusively.

I don't tow anything though.

I also lock out gear 8,9, and 10 when not on an interstate route.

My gas mileage increased by doing this.

These transmissions suck when it comes to lugging.
Do you have to lock out the gears each time you start up the truck or is it locked until you unlock it? Seems like a preflight checklist "turn off ASS, lock out gears 8-10", etc

Lol the 10R80 does not Lug. If you havent Lugged a Manual then you dont know what Lugging feels like.

I drove manuals almost exclusively prior to the Ranger. I understand what you are saying, but most people use the term because the feelings are similar. Maybe "bogging" would be a better term to use. I dunno.

All I know is this 10 speed sucks (to me) on anything non-interstate that is not flat land. As I've mentioned previously, I increased my MPG by locking out the last 3 gears while in town.

Yes, pre-flight checklist everytime. Well, I don't have to deal with ASS as my tuner turned it off.
