Went for a quick run to pick up groceries and was greeted with this…

:( I assumed a faulty TPMS sensor but checked the tire pressure to make sure it wasn’t simply low. It was fine and there is no numerical value for one of the tires when I check the Tire Pressure screen; just “- - -“.

So, it looks like I’ll need a new sensor. $50 plus installation, possibly balancing…? ?

Or could it be that it just needs to be reprogrammed? Programming tools are inexpensive and I’d like to avoid a trip to the tire shop.

Maybe another member or our good friend, @Discount Tire , knows if these sensors sometimes get a case of gremlins and just need to be reprogrammed.

It’s a bummer but check out that sweet XLT Instrument Cluster - if @AzScorpion is lucky, his Lariat Tremor got upgraded to the XLT cluster.

I hope you have replacement value Duke, it might be totaled.

I'm still waiting for my salesman to send me a picture of the dash but I think they went back to the Lariat dash a while back. To bad because the XLT dash is so much better.

Damn, no replacement value insurance - maybe I should buy the adjuster coffee and donuts too.

I think your OCD favours the symmetry presented by the XLT cluster.

It may be that a simple relearn is all that you need. I hope that's the case.

Odds are, the sensor is bad and needs to be replaced.

Thanks very much for your reply - confirms my first thought. I’ll rotate in my matching spare for now and off to the tire shop I go. ?

If you have a Discount Tire locally, they have the tool to relearn the sensors. They can also replace the sensor, if needed. The sensor is easy to pull, so you shouldn't need to rebalance them. I could do it with the tire still seated on the inside bead.

We have a Discount Tire but it’s an independent - our good sponsor doesn’t operate here in Toronto. Too bad because I’d support them. I have a good tire shop that can check if it’s a dead sensor, then I can order one and pop the bead on my own - I know a few tricks I learned from an old school mechanic who changed tires in his backyard using a sliding pry bar and a tire iron. ?

There is a relearn procedure you need to run....you can Google for Ford tpms relearn... Something like key in on position hazards on off 3 or 6times then follow from driver's front let air out till you hear beeps then next tire probably passenger front... Memory is rusty ...if the tpms fails you will get a sensor fault

That sucks, but $50 is a good price. Ford dealer or private?

I think the dealer charged me ~$90 each.
