Doesn't look like it from this pic. A screw and different stud in what looks like a different location.

That's really generous of you to share with us. It's certainly a "fuller" looking cover. The stock one seems so small.

Good luck and I can't wait to hear what you discover! =)

As I said earlier. Going to take awhile to arrive from seller.
Maybe it can be made to fit but this is a great looking engine cover that should provide protection from water intrusion to the spark plug recess.
If it works the price is worth it to me. If it doesn't then I'm out a little money and saved everyone the bother.

It will be at least two weeks and I'll report my findings.

That's a really great job! But tell the truth, someone else painted that picture didn't they? That's like Paul @OrangeStreak had a picture of his truck perfectly parked in his driveway. Only to find out his neighbor parked it for him.?‍♂

How in the world did this thread go from Engine in boats & Covers to Bob Ross? That's a new one.
Just go with the flow...it's how the forum works. It's a contest, first to see how fast a topic can change, and second, to see how many off-shoot topics we can fit into one thread...

For info the answer to the first was one...someone posted a thread and the second was totally off...

One thing that I like about the engine being in marine offerings is it shows that its a good motor. groups like Mercruiser, PCM, Indmar, Volvo and others have used big three engines as a start for making marine engines. They do not waste time or money on engines that are not up to snuff from the start. Some of the famous auto engines were marine motors. the c4 vette ZR1 that was so hip then for its high revving hot 350 v8 were Mercruiser. Gm had to limit the output and rpms so it didnt cook the gm bolt ons lol. So long story short from my nerdyness if the 2.3 stays in marine engine circles its really proving it has grit as a good quality engine. The not so great engines are either never looked at or they try them for a few years in cheap ass boats.
I had an old Ford 2.3 in a 17' Bayliner I/O 20 years ago. Reliable but not strong enough to pull 2 skiers at once.

I don't see any way that these interchange. Maybe someone will come out with a carbon fiber one for the Ranger.
Agree. Let alone the hardware location; the location of the oil filler is different on the Mustang cover. The filler is right next to the dip stick on the Ranger but further aft with a separation on the other cover.

Oil cap and dipstick are in different locations...

I'm happy to use a hole saw to make needed alterations.
We modify our trucks. I'll modify the cover as needed.

It dosen't look like it would be hard to enlarge the area for the Ranger's dip/cap location and maybe cover the rear cap fill hole. Locating and drilling holes for the Ranger's mount point wouldn't be hard. Would still look LOT'S better than the naked engine looks now. As long as the cover "fit's" the top of the engine, I'd give it a try.

You are almost convincing me to actually paint my cover correctly. "Public institution lunch tray" perfectly describes my abomination of a paint job on the cover. I think that's what is going through every mechanic's mind that pops my hood open. Enjoy the laugh  :turkey:

Clever! That paint job might scare off some mice! Well, at least the city mice! =D

It''l keep vandals from stealing it. And seeing some prices for them, it's a tempting target! =D
