that's some funny stuff. My plan was a 18-20 foot skiff with a junkyard low mileage motor. guess I'll throw out that idea.

anybody else find it strange they use 15w-50 oil?
Wonder if it has something to do with the fact that boat engines tend to live at much higher rpm's than a truck would

That cover looks identical to the CJ Pony Parts carbon fiber cover for the Mustang Eco boost.
Even looks like the stock Mustang cover.....Hmmmmmmm.......wonder if the Mustang cover would fit the Ranger ???????

It certainly covers more of the engine (especially for those looking for a noise reduction).

Okay, so I should probably take a breath and write one response and not three!

But they list higher HP and torque, is that because it says to use 93 octane but our Ranger manuals say use 87?
  • 350 lb-ft of Torque @ 4000 RPM
  • 310 Horsepower @ 4800 RPM
  • 93 Octane Unleaded (Maximum 10% Ethanol)
I know my wife's Mazda explicitly says diff HP for diff octane (227 vs. 256).

Doe this fit the same hardware used on our cover?

Those are the ratings for the 2.3 Ecoboost in a Mustang.

i have no proof but i would not see why they would not. The Indmar version may have better hardware to suit its marine environment but the placement and thread etc. is likely the same.

It’s probably safe to assume about +30 hp when using 93 octane in our Ranger compared to 87. At least this is what I tell myself.

thats likely exactly why. marine engines endure more than the normal car does. longer times under stress too. Indmar may have dome some wizardry with it to need better the tough oil too but idk.

Yes. Higher continuous operating RPM's as well as hotter temps. This is a new grade for Mercruiser though.
My 5,0L EFI used 25w40. The other grades that Mercruiser sells are 10w30, 25w40 & 25w50 for their powerplants.

OMC used to use the old Ford NA 2.3L engine back in the day.
