Spoiler, I think this Toyo has it all over the Falken, but let me know where I'm wrong.
The Toyo is a tall/skinny 255/75 r17, specs:
- C load rated.
- 32.05" tall.
- 48 pounds.
The Falken 265/70 r17:
- SL (aka Passenger) load rated.
- 31.65" tall.
- 47 pounds.
Presumption - both the 255/75 and the 265/70 fit a stock 4x4 Ranger, per forum posts and confirmations here and elsewhere. Someone correct me if I'm wrong!
The Toyo is taller (by 0.4") than Falken.
Toyo is a C load rated tire while the Falken is Passenger rated.
The Falken is but 1 pound lighter than the Toyo.
Being a tall/skinny, 10 mm narrower (but taller) than the Falken, the Toyo theoretically may have lower rolling resistance. I found no MPG calculations between these two, or between nearly any two AT tires.
Putting aside price differences, any reason to choose Falken over this particular Toyo AT3 size? The Toyo is taller, more robust (C Load) and only 1 pound heavier than Falken. Tread patterns are really similar. I don't care about aesthetics at all, only performance. This will be used in PNW climates, so dry, rain, snow but the Ranger will traverse off pavement in the West, including the desert West for probably 4 weeks a year, at minimum. Not purposely rock crawling, but remote camping road trips ('overlanding' is overused and I hate saying it).
