The Trouble With Moving On

Yeah they're returning to their HEMI V8 roots. For now. Hopefully without Start-Stop BS that helps kill gas engines. I hope they don't go cylinder deactivation either. Just give us V8's please! As much as I love my Turbocharged Ranger, especially in Hot and High situations, there's just nothing like a V8 engine. There is no replacement for displacement when it comes to ICE's. I'm fine with hybrids. Boring as all hell but ok it's easier to live with than full electric.

I actually compared a hybred and normal engine when I was test driving cars. Same car, different engine and the hybred blew the other away. Hold on Cowboy kinda fun. Felt better than a turbo. Alas, I ended up with a different make. Not sure that would translate the same in a truck.

Yeah so hybrids today on high performance trucks and SUV's make more power. Cost more and more power. But VERY complicated. I get what you mean though if I had reasonable assurance that my hybrid will be reliable I probably would get one if it's more powerful and doesn't sound like ass.

In order of preference for a Truck, give me:

1. The old Ford 300 inline 6. Over built, slow, but will last forever, and easy to work on.
2. Old Chevy V8 small blocks - 265, 283, 327, 350 (I 'd even allow electronic ignition on this one, but nothing more)
3. For a car, the old ~2000 Models of Crown VIc. Boring but reliable.

I'm a devout techie, but I value reliability and repair-ability over all else in my vehicles. Oh! And one last thing... absolutely NO 'Nanny Tech".

One last thought, my 2005 Ranger 4.0 V6 has proven to be extremely reliable.

I had a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis. It had the Dual Exhaust option and floor shifter. Yes you heard that right. That was a rare option on a Merc. It was a little faster than the Crown Vic cop cars of the time. 250 hp with handling package. Yeah it was super reliable and tough as nails. You want the later models with the wider track and more power. Classic American sedan. 0-60 in 8 seconds. I also had the last of the Chevy small blocks: 1991 Chevy Corvette with the L97 350 TPi motor and 4-speed automatic OD transmission. It had ABS and electronically controlled suspension. But no other nanny shit. Another reliable V8, and relatively simple compared to today's cars. And was fast too. 250 hp on a car that was so light! 0-60 in 5 seconds. The Chevy small block so much better than the Ford 4.6. After all that I got the Mustang GT with the 4.6 SOHC 3 valve with 5-speed automatic. Oh my goodness! Not as fast as the Corvette, didn't handle as good, but just as much fun. Maybe more fun. The looks alone was killer. Looked like a modern Bullitt style 'Stang. And the sound of that V8 was intoxicating. I can go on and on with V8's!
