When I was about 10 or so, I was at summer camp, and took part in a 3-day hike. As we get back to camp, and approach our cabin, we notice that there's this big ole water moccasin trying to get through a crack between the door and the door jamb. Counselors beat it to death with a couple of sticks. Turned out that it was a pregnant mama looking for a place to lay her eggs. If we'd have been even a half-hour later, she might have gotten in and we'd have had a nest of eggs in our bunks.
Years later, when I was in the service in Africa, one of the guys went to go relieve himself, came back white as a fresh sheet of paper, and he wasn't even Caucasian to begin with. Turns out that while he was "watering the tree", a green mamba came up slithering between his legs...
