Hi , I understand the '' no control '' view , but at 75 years old do you make an effort to may be extend your life span as far as possible through diet and exercise . Ive recently turned 74 and I'm now getting scared and frightened that my time may be running out .

.
Fear is a killer. You can't help but sometimes think that you won't be around for this or that in the future, but do not dwell on such thoughts. Every day, show kindness to someone, eat fruit, set reasonable, meaningful goals. Above all, live as if a Higher Power is large and in charge; in spite of the Memphis police, Chinese spy balloons, the Ukraine, fuel in your oil- all of it. Each day turn it over, it really works.

I have a couple thoughts for you. First, stop worrying, not a thing you can do about it anyway, just causes ulcers. Let's face none of us is guarantied our next breath (favorite saying of one of my past pastors). Second, know where you are going when the time does come. I am positive where I'm going is going to be a better place, because I know who is in charge. It isn't anyone here on earth.

I'll be 70 in 2 months and next month I will be 3 years with a slightly used 20 something liver. Yes, I have started taking better care of my self. And Yes the abuses I put my body through in my youth have come back to haunt me. But, each day I wake up and see the sun, I say thankyou for another day. The, I go out and live in it. Back when I was 23 I totaled out my car at 125 mph. It was a '70 'Cuda, wish I still had it, would be worth a fortune. It end over ended and I was thrown out the rear window. I walked away from it. Then and there I figured he had another plan for me. Shortly after I met my wonderful wife of 45+ years had 2 beautiful and intelligent children. I had a good 45 year career during which I only had 3 employers and never was unemployed. So yes, I've had a blessed life.

So, again stop worrying, take everyday for the gift it is. People use to ask me " aren't you afraid to ride your motorcycle on the highway in traffic". My answer always was the same "No! He can take me anytime He wants. At least I'll go doing something I enjoy."

William, lots of good and sound thoughts have been expressed in this thread.
I'm one year behind you in age. We are all different in life experiences and health status.
Consider not dwelling on the time you have until death.
Enjoy the fact that you made it to 74. So many others never had that opportunity.
Make use of the unknown time you have in doing what brings enjoyment.

From age 11 through 60, I was in four different events to lose my life. I'm still here and thankful every single day I wake up.
For myself. All I ask for is to die a natural death. Don't want to be taken out by someone texting on their phone as I'm in a crosswalk.
But when my time comes no matter how, so be it.

I do hope some of the words you are reading from those that responded to your question will be helpful.

I'm sorry your experiencing such things , if you could magically turn the clock back to your past youth , what would change or do differently .

By having multiple 23-27yr old girlfriends in different towns. Don’t know why I’m so tired and broke?…
Maybe your wife is a pull tab junkie?

I just turned 69. I'm lucky to be pretty healthy -- it wasn't because of anything I did other to stay physically active.

The thing that keeps me upbeat is volunteering. I teach dog obedience to people having trouble controlling or relating to their new pets. Most of the training involves the owners more than the dogs. I also volunteer at a local history museum, and do some editorial work at a community radio station. I'm a busy guy!

It's a pleasure and an ego boost to share knowledge I've acquired over the years. That's our strength as old farts. I don't want that knowledge to die with me, so I work hard to pass it on. The recipients are generally quite appreciative. Remember that elders are traditionally honored for their wisdom.

I’m going through this with my husband. He’s 62 and is not coping well with aging. He’s so worried about how much time he has left that he’s not enjoying today.
I’m 60. I don’t worry about how much time I have left. I enjoy everyday as it comes. I stay busy. I enjoy working in my greenhouses…very relaxing.
Main thing, for me, is: as wonderful (or not) as this life is, this is not my home. I look forward to being with my Father in Heaven.

I deal with aging with:
a) Attitude….
“I’m going to live to be 100 or die trying.”

b) Acceptance…

There are children that never make it into their teens.

Every day is a gift, make the most of them, maybe that just means a walk around the block, watching a favorite TV show or jumping out of an airplane... doesn't matter.. as long as it means something to YOU.

I'm approaching my 59th birthday next month.. looking forward to retiring so I can ride my motorcycle more and not have to worry about vacation time and getting home so I can be ready for work on Monday.

But, I've been very lucky, good health, nothing I would ever call a hardship and have been employed since before High School and full time ever since except for maybe a 2 week span.

If I go tomorrow... I have no regrets and have been luckier than many many more, and my Mom was proud of me, the only goal I ever had in life.
