Ford makes more money selling vehicles to people looking for a truck-styled minivan to haul their family around while projecting a "truck lifestyle" than they would make selling plain old trucks. No conspiracy theory needed to explain any of this. It's made worse by the cost cutters aggressively deleting any option other than the highest volume sellers, leaving people with fewer and fewer options.
