I love the look of the Canyon AT4 and was prepared to trade my 21 Ranger for one. The test drive pretty much canceled out that idea. The Canyon felt smaller inside and larger outside. I didn't like the hood which limits visibility. The lower side door area storage was almost non existent with just one small cup holder and rear seat area smaller also. Low end power seemed ok but when I got on it, the mid to top end power wasn't there... all rev and no go. Shifting was smoother than my Ranger, no surprise there... It handled good but rode stiff. The stiffness could've been caused by high tire press but I couldn't find where to check it in the menus. Looks like the new Ranger with the 2.7 might be a better choice for me.

Doesn't the AT4 come with the High Output version of the 2.7 (310/430)?

I've been looking everywhere for a real review on a ZR2 with that engine and coming up with nothing better that "it's better than the V6 it replaces"

With those numbers I'm surprised it felt weak.

I was expecting the HO version to be comparable to a mid-level tuned Ranger at least.

Yes, it's the high output version. It has noticeable turbo lag and doesn't seem to pull thru the entire rev range like the Ranger. It felt anemic to me. It could have had 87 octane fuel in it which could be holding it back also. The engine was louder for sure. I was disappointed.

Be prepared for the 6G hood limiting visibility.
Yeah, it looks like it might be more limited. At least the next gen hood is less bulky than GMC/Chevy and not using fake hood scoops like the Toyota.

That was one of the main reasons I choose the Ranger , after test driving other trucks first , mostly Tacoma , which at the risk of being "Bud Lighted " here , I actually like the looks of the front ends , until I realized how much it DOES limit your sight , Tacoma was like looking out a slit with piller blind spots , Ranger felt like a big screen TV ...

A month ago, all of the newer local Silverado Custom trim with the HO engine were actually missing the HO piece due to chip shortages. I kept seeing it as a credit on the sticker. I didn’t bother test driving one and jumped to the 5.3 V8.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I do like the look of the AT4 Canyon, but I’ve always been partial to Ford. And I do like my Tremor too much to even consider it, but this helps to quiet my interest.

That truck was on my short list for test drives later this year. Was hoping the new 2.7 would run well. My 18 Canyon was quick as hell with the V6. Will be driving them all before doing anything. Tremor is good for now. Will most likely drive into 2024.
