How long does updating the software 3.4.23188 into the Sync radio in the Ranger take for website Ford.com to recognize it on the Ford.com website?

I don't even bother trying to do OTA updates or down loading from the Ford website. Never seems to work and took forever. I do my updates using the CyanLabs Sync3Updater app. Input your information and it will format your USB drive and download the proper files. Then just plug it in to the truck and wait for it to tell you to pull it out. Now for how long. If you don't have NAV, it is fairly quick maybe 20 minutes or less. If you have NAV, which I don't, and are updating maps it can take quite a while maybe an hour and a half. You need to have the truck running or on a charger, to not run the battery down.

Lee, if you're doing the update (with Nav) while driving can you stop and start your truck and will the update continue where it left off? Or does it need to be done in one continuous update? I've tried doing this update over wifi and it'd never worked and have to get another USB drive which I keep forgetting to do.

Again, I don't have NAV, so my updates have been relatively short. I have just done them in the driveway with the truck idling and waited till they completed. I know the OTA updates would download the files in chunks when the truck had a WIFI signal. I think once the update starts it needs to run to completion or it starts over from the beginning.

Sorry I’m not sure I explained my question easily.

I updated the 3.4.23188 software to my radio but looking at the Ford.com website with my v.i.n. # it still shows the old software that was in my Ranger.

My question is how long does it take until Ford.com shows the updated 3.4.23188 software with my v.i.n. # ?

Thanks

IIRC on my '19 it took a couple of days to show the change.

If you updated via the Ford USB process, the last step is to upload the confirmation (xml) file created on your USB. That process (when it works) should update the site immediately. However, many users experience issues with the upload process ranging from not getting the xml file to the website not accepting it. Another way to try to get the site updated is to connect to wifi after the update is complete and running a new search for update from the Sync3 screen. Again, that does not always work either.

This is only required for the MAP update, not the SYNC update, but to answer the question - it varies greatly sometimes a couple of months or a few days.

If and when it ever does reflect the software update I will report back.

Thanks for the help.

Sorry, but this process applies to Sync updates, not the map updates. See the instructions attached. (Steps 4.1 & 4.2)

Sorry, you are CORRECT, I was thinking of the (License File) that is only required for the MAP Update.
I was WRONG :headbang:
I was thinking to myself after I posted (hey wait a minute) which one does it require you to send the confirmation file and you outed me before I could respond:wink:?

My apologies if this is to far off topic.
Let’s say your vehicle has the “WiFi hotspot.” Enabled. Having the vehicle hotspot enabled and automatic updates on.. Will this update the sync 3 version on its own?
Like if I’m on a long enough drive without any drops in connectivity.

(OTA= over the air? Meaning WiFi interwebs?).

When I updated mine with USB drive the ford website had the version updated by the time I got home... Also if doing it OTA you can ACK the full power acessory warning when it comes on and it will not time out. I setup the battery minder, ack the dash warning and let it rip. it took about 4 hours (with maps) on a 5G wifi. This time it also updated on the ford site immediatly.

I've not updated the navigation or sync in my 2019, ford sent me an email saying I could download to a USB for iirc $ 105. Overall I'm happy with fords NAV except that it seems painfully slow and I lack patience , is there anyway to make it run faster? I'm seeing slowness as well on my hisense TV, it was faster 2 yrs when I bought it , now I have to run the optimization monthly and delete all the junk that gets download to the TV. With my PC I have a solid state disk , a good quad processor and run programs to remove unneeded crap , are there any means to optimize the nav system?

As far as Ford knowing what level of SYNC my radio is on "I don't care". If they want to know, they can fix their update system so it works. Until then, my radio is working just fine, that is all I care about. ?
