I have Tacoma friends who've removed their sway bars and reported no handling problems. Anyone besides guys who track their Rangers have done this for pure off road articulation? I have a track car for G force and don't have the need to push corners in my Ranger...usually I'll back up traffic around tight turns because my trucks tire are made for off road and not cornering ?

I have no experience on an ifs vehicle, but when I disconnected my front and rear sways on my XJ, it was pure sketch. I added a front quick disconnect and left the rear sway off and it was fine. The leaf spring rear was plenty stable on road for that vehicle, but the coil spring front needed the sway bar at any speed over 25mph.

Dual straight axles are a different animal though, so I couldn't tell you how it'll be on the Ranger!

Most folks I know who have done this on other cars have aftermarket suspension and have the valving tuned to account for this. The truck will wallow and wobble more, but if the suspension is set up right, then it should be good, but ymmv

I drove a 96 cadillac deville without a sway bar because it was broke and it wasn't that bad. A lot of body roll obviously. Probably be worse on the ranger because the stock suspension is so soft and the higher center of gravity. Aftermarket suspension would obviously change the dynamics too.

Edit: Unbolt one of the links and try it out, easy to put back then.

Did you end up doing this? How was it long term?

I have experience and I do have some input for it. Technically speaking I still left the sway bar on there but I ended up taking the links off for an extended period of time mainly because I was lazy and didn't want to put it back on.

First and foremost you will have less traction in a turn for normal street and highway driving. You will also have less stability.

Yes with a sway bar disconnect or the sway bar removed you can get more articulation going off-road. I have confirmed this. So if I disconnects are a great idea if you're traveling off road often.

In my opinion I feel it is best to leave the sway bar installed and if anything get a set of sway bright disconnects even if that means making your own. This will help ensure that you have nice stability and handling on the street and highways along with having the necessary articulation when traveling off road.

I picked up a Bronco sway bar disconnect, thinking it might plug and play for the Ranger. Track width is the same, but it needs some unique sway bar links. It looks like the Bronco's go down to the LCA, while ours go up to the knuckle. And it looks like a bushing / hardware sizing difference between the two.

I did drive it around like that in town for about 2 days as I tried to figure it all out before giving up and reverting back to the standard sway bar. I still have thoughts about getting some customer links to make that all work, but not sure exactly where to go to do that.

Sway bar deleted. Even with the added body roll I find I dont feel going over bumps and pot holes on road nearly as much. Keeping it off. I did turn my low speed compression up higher on my 2.5s to limit the body roll.
