That appears to be true for a 2019 super crew, but not for a 2020 super crew. and it doesn't appear to have ever been on the super cabs (like mine). At least according to the 2019 and 2020 owner's manuals. I was curious.

I'd love it if the super cabs had folding headrests. The seat backs have a bolt securing them that has to be removed so it can be tilted to remove the headrest.

The 2019 owner's manual said something like "may" fold, so I assumed that just the crew cab folds. That's what I get for assuming.

I will say that I'm jealous. May have to check to see if they're available and at what cost.

I leave them in place...push the side button and they go horizontal for when you don't have passenger and need better rear vision. No need to remove.
The don't interview with the rear view mirror at all.

Never bothered with mine.

I have a 2020 Super Cab and can confirm there is no button nor the ability for them to tilt. Nobody rides in the back so I removed them. It takes a bit of effort as you have to push them up a bit into the liner and tilt somewhat forward when you reach the last 1/2" or so of the posts. The view out the back is much improved.

19 crew and I have the buttons. I will say that I did remove the one side for my daughter's car seat. Just fits better. I stow it under the seat in the cubby hole until needed.

No buttons, but the springs are still in there.

And it feels like it would tilt if released.

Hah! My 2020 super cab now has folding headrests! Also makes removal much easier as well!

Everything is there except the button and the trimmed hole in the headrest cover. I removed the headrests, removed the cover, cut a piece of 1/2" wooden dowel rod 1-3/4" long and slid them into their respective holes, reinstalled the cover, reinstalled the headrest into the seat, good to go!

What gets me is that the foam is even cut for the button. I would have paid for the hole and button and not blinked. I just don't get it.

Oh, and the folded headrest's highest part is about even with my tailgate in my rear view mirror.

So, now I have folding headrests with hidden buttons.

Almost forgot, thanks for the pics. Once I saw the springs in the pic, I couldn't stand it and went out and took everything apart.

Here's a few pics

The hole to install a dowel in. While it didn't turn out well, you can see what the dowel operates inside.

Here's the headrest disassembled. While not obvious, on the right you can see where the foam is slotted on the left side section that will allow the button to slide through. Not shown is the hole in the foam where the button sits.

And the finished project. Hidden button folding headrests!

Nice hack ! Did the covers go back together properly ?

They still stick up too high. I'll leave them in my garage cabinet along with the lower seat cushions.
Yes, the covers come apart and go back together fairly easily. While it's hard to see, the "U" shaped plastic stitched to the center and end tabs go under the headrest and tuck into the back side. The back side has a single stiff flat piece of plastic stitched to the cover. It flips under and engages the "U"s.

Understand about them still sticking up, but they are a lot better. And folding makes them easier to remove and install. I don't really carry more than myself and one other person, but have had times when being able to carry an extra person or two comes in handy, but I wouldn't ask someone to ride back there for very long. I have sat in those seats, and while I can do it, it ain't nowhere near comfortable. But, I could do it for short distances.

You mind showing a picture of the dowel rod installed?

The dowel stays in there by the pressure of the material?
Once the cover is installed, there's no place for the dowel to go. The dowel sticks out into the foam hole and the fabric prevents it from falling out. The dowel could be about 1/4" longer, it's not in there tight. I figured on cutting a thin piece of foam or leather and gluing it to the inside of the fabric for a wear surface and that should make it a bit more snug.

To be honest, I didn't give the initial mod a lot of thought. I was just happy to find out that they'll fold. Feel free to modify as you see fit. There's nothing hard about this. The first time took about a half hour only because I took the seat backs loose. Once the headrests fold, the seat back can stay in place. I removed the headrest, removed the cover, took the pics, assembled, and reinstalled in less than 10 minutes this morning.
