It came with two of my desired upgrades, hard tonneau and bed liner. In looking at the pics of others, I am almost wondering if a leveling lift was put in, but if not, that will happen (I came from a 2016 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk that I installed a lift, rock rails and larger tires) after I wheel it a bit. If nothing else to improve the approach angle. I want to be able to do Fins and Things in Moab again as well as other trails. Maybe some upgraded off-road lights, but mostly I bought it for better cargo capacity and ability to tow a small travel trailer after we sell our 40' diesel pusher in a month or two.

Oh.....I will pin stripe it a bit (that is how my wife finds our cars).
GLAD TO SEE THE TGD ISN'T ON YOUR LIST OF MUST HAVES. THAT SAYS A TON ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER

Ok...you got me. TGD??? Sounds like stuff we used to send newbies after in the Navy....and you can accuse me of being a character, but not having any.:D:D

Edit ok, after 10 minutes of searching....and I kind of liked the idea of a TGD...there went my character points.

Mine did it in warm weather too. I think it’s been more of an annoyance than a particular problem.
Mine also did/does it when warm only (which is ~5 months a year where I live).
Have you had your spline joint lubed? If so, how much and for how long did it help?
I did mine myself a few days ago. So far much better, but curious on longevity of the fix.
I agree it is likely a design issue.

Mine stopped altogether. I ended up trading the Ranger in on a full size truck a couple of months ago. I did love the Ranger though!

Ha, we have/had the same vehicle:
2021 Screw 4x4 Lariat 501a Blk App Carbonized Gray
So did your spline joint get lubed to stop it?
Did you go F-150? I may end up in a full size in a few years. I want more stable towing and cargo space, but I LOVE the size of the Ranger.

Nice choice! The Ranger was my first truck, but I just needed something larger to fit my family better. I test drove some of the 2.7L F150 STX options, but I ended up in a new 22 Silverado LT 5.3L V8 in Glacier Blue.

Realized I didn't answer your full question. I did not end up fixing the issue. It had stopped in the autumn time and not started back up yet.

Interesting...we have been in a period of high 90's so will be interesting to see what happens when the temps cool off later this week.

I vote for the slip joint, gentle bump on start/stop, try to use the special Ford lube, it's just for that problem.

Motorcraft XG-8 PTFE lube,

https://www.motorcraft.com/us/en_us...s-and-lubricants/greases/ptfe-lubricants.html

when I was at the dealer 25 years ago, every line or lube tech had a tube of this on the bench, they used it for everything, throwout bearing retainers, clutch disc splines, pilot bearings, shifters and especially driveshafts.

I am a new member and just bought a 2021 Tremor with 30k miles. Love the truck so far. One oddity I notice is a subtle thump/clunk when I stop and start. Like there is a small bit of play in the drive train. Thanks for any advice on where to look.
Hi Jeff,

This is classic symptom of driveshaft slip joint. It appears that Dana tried to cut corners by applying minimum lube on this joint before shipping to Ford. If you Ranger is under warranty, have the dealer address. If not and you are a DYI type, it is relatively simple.

Good Luck!

Best,
Phil
