I would not have the dealer do it - even tho they will farm it out. No point in adding another profit layer. My experience suggests both Line-X or Rhino-Liner are excellent, BUT the preparation before it's sprayed in is the key. So it's the installer - find a good one with a good reputation. If the surface is not roughed up and prepped properly the spray-in will not stick.

I sprayed in Rhino-Liner in my old pick up and came away with two things to consider with an aftermarket.
- If the spray-in (either brand) gets muddy/wet it's slicker than snot. I won't speak to Line-X, but Rhino Liner will add pumice in the spray if you ask for it. Sprayed on the bed floor will inhibit slip.
- You can insure the spray-in dealer "plugs" screw holes IOT keep them clear if you want to install an after market box, bed extender, etc. I ordered the factory spray-in and spent a half hour on each screw hole cleaning them IOT install a box.

In AZ you won't have a problem, but depending upon where the truck will reside, a drop-in will hold moisture and promote rust.

Should I go with Ford for the Spray-In? Would you suggest a Spray-In? does this limit me in anyway for mods/racks, etc...?

Also, is there an alternative to the plastic guards on the bed?

Thank you!
Hi.. I purchased my Ranger with the Ford spray in.. It seems to be a great finish and tough. I salvaged my Tacoma Bed Mat and installed it on the floor. It looks good and fewer things will get scratched by the course texture of the factory spray in. So I am recommending the Spray finish with a heavy rubber floor mat. Although I'm no sure what I will do if I want to slide in heavy boxes. I used to pull the floor mat and let things slide along the plastic liner in the Taco when I had to haul a bunch of heavy gear.
I guess I will have to find a slippery mat to use on those occasions.

I did Toff liners from a place in San Antonio, TX. They had a lifetime warranty for chipping and fading without paying extra line Line-X does.

The dealer I purchased from does it to all their trucks as a profit making got ya. I am glad that it was done, don't know who they use, but I also installed a Westin rubber bed mat. For the knee problem I use this. :like:

I used Line-X and am very satisfied with it. Since I planned to put a bed cover on the truck as well, they said I could save money by NOT including the UV protection. Note that others in this forum posted that they had issues with the liner fading from sunlight (but did NOT have the UV protection), so make sure you decide accordingly. I now have the cover installed and have used the truck for some "real" work, and the Line-X coating seems to be tough as concrete.

Line-x typically does a good job. However, I usually go with the manufacturer's [ so in this instance Ford]since it is covered under the same warranty as the other parts on the car 3 yr or 36,000 miles. This way if it has an issue it's warranted by Ford and handled at the dealership like any other warranty related issue.

I also always use a bed mat as well for further protection and to have a softer surface on my knees etc when accessing things in the bed.

If you go after market make sure they remove all of the bed and tailgate bolts and screws before spraying. This way if you ever need to remove them, they aren't locked in by the spray liner material. Further be sure they mask everything off properly. Ive seen too many times where they didn't and overspray wound up in the tail lights, on the sides of the bed or all over underneath the bed. Who applies it and how its applied is a big factor in the quality of the job and in the liner itself long term.

My local dealers are not even ordering trucks with the spray-in. They go with a local provider that offers a lifetime warranty. Ford is only a one year warranty. I also got a 25% Veterans discount from the local company. They did a great job and it took only 3 hours.
Ford is a 3 yr 36k warranty. They don't order Ford so they can mark up the bediner for profit.

so my Ford dealer offers a spray in, more in a way that they get trucks in without it and they do it. I am not sure if they do it themselves; something I'll look into. Thanks for all the responses!
Local dealer here installs their own spray-in liners. Will order a Ford only if you you request it. He can make over $200 on each liner he sells at the price he charges which is comparable to most other options. With a Ford factory ordered liner he makes like $50.

This is actually why I wouldn't go ford--line x has a longer warranty and you can get problems dealt with almost anywhere by people who work with the stuff all day. I've heard anecdotally that if you do try and get a problem with a Ford liner dealt with (and manage to do so before the warranty runs out) you're going to be waiting for a dealer tech to read the instructions on a patch kit he's never used before and the results are...variable.

The good thing is that bed liners don't often fail, so it's not something that really impacted my decision. But if you're planning to beat it up and think it might be an issue, definitely look into that.

Up until this truck I have been die hard line-x and had it sprayed on all of them and had no complaints. For my current truck I went with Bullet liner based on reviews and price point and after having it for 3 months I am still happy with my choice. it looks like bullet doesn't spray quite as thick as Line'x but seems to hold up just as well. Bonus point is the Bullet has the UV protection built into the base level that Line'x does not. They do offer an upgrade as well but didn't see the need.
