My question has nothing to do with water fording. I fully understand the limitations of modern vehicle electronics and water. I have owned vehicles that were capable of fording water and have gone swimming a few times in older jeeps. Please move along if your here to cry about the alternator location.

If your still reading your curious or may have an answer to my questions.
My vehicle/location specs that relate are, roush intake, livernios 91 octane performance tune and soon to be Montune intercooler. Climate (Las Vegas) hot, dusty, dry ambient temp over 100* for 3 months of the year toppling 115* many times every summer. Shout out to my Arizona brothers you know what Im talking about.

With my torque app I'm seeing intake temps in the 150*+ sitting still and around 125* while driving.

I was thinking of running a Sy-Klone pre filter on a snorkel and can not find any data on misimoto vs ARB snorkel air flow rates and intake temp degrees. Misimoto is a lot cleaner looking but construction appears to be air flow restrictive, The ARB is straight to the point, tube to intake.

Thoughts? data links?

So you're asking if a snorkel will help intake Temps right? Short answer, no.

Long answer. Stock ranger intake is a true cold air intake, it gets air from outside the engine bay. I've seen 2 different roush intakes for the ranger, one has a sealed lid and the other has an open lid. Any open lid intake is worse than the stock intake. Or any intake that pulls air from the engine bay for that matter, I forget which brand it was but it's like the cheap spectre intakes that have nothing but a single wall that does nothing to keep hot air from the filter.

A snorkel won't change the intake temps at all, an intercooler is the best way to help. Do NOT get aluminum charge pipes unless you can somehow insulate them from the engine bay temps. Yes theoretically aluminum will dissipate the heat from the compressed air inside the pipe better than plastic, BUT the engine bay air is hotter than the charge air so it actually works the opposite of what you want. Water meth injection also helps temp and performance but you have to maintain that system.

Side note I live in florida, little more humid and not quite as hot as where you are (it hasn't been under 90 the past 3 months where I am), only powertrain mods I have are catback exhaust and a levelz intercooler. I havent seen over 138 for my intake temp even when sitting.

I can't speak to the temps, but the Mishimoto routes very similar to the ARB. Rounded corners at every direction change, feeds directly to the airbox. I can't see one offering better air flow than the other. I love my Mishi, looks great and opens the intake up quite a bit. If you're really concerned about air temps, I would think an intercooler would be the better option.

What I would be more curious about is the amount of positive pressure on the box depending on source. The stock route can be improved using a Velossa Tech BIG MOUTH and open up the trim panel. You definitely outside pressure on the box. It’s not noticeable ether

Thanks for the response, I have the sealed roush intake. I also have a mountune intercooler coming with silicone charge hoses, hope that helps a bit. It was 108* ambient today and my intake temps topped 165*. It's gonna be 115* this weekend ambient. Like sitting on the sun.

Memory may be completely wrong, but I remember a big stink on here because I believe Mishimoto has ignored numerous request for actual performance specs on their snorkel and they have gone unanswered even though their initial pre-sale media indicated they would.

I personally have requested if I can purchase their kit minus the external snorkel (for another project I wanted to attempt) and those also went un-aswered.

They were somewhat active pre-sale of the snorkel, then after its release went dark.

Edit: Yup, they have an account here that basically went dead as of 4/12/2022.

I'm looking into the Mishimoto @Colo_Ranger , the intake is attached though a hole in the lower part of the OEM air box, correct? I have a Roush cold air intake and am curious if that would be any different for installation, the bottom of the air box is the OEM, what's changed with the Roush intake are the filter itself, top of the box and outtake hose with larger diameter, these are the only different parts.
Has anyone fitted the Mishi snorkel to a Roush cold air intake?
