I've searched the forum and can't easily locate any threads that address my questions. I have converted all my 1,000+ CD collection a few times over the years, from MP3 and now to FLAC. I also have converted all of my SACD's and DVD-A's to either FLAC, or DSD files. I was actually surprised that the B&O recognized and played the DSD files. FLAC has become a standard, so I wasn't as surprised, but happy they could all be played as well. My question is are these higher bitrate files being compressed at all. or are they being played natively? Some manufactures clearly address their capabilities. For instance, Lexus states that anything above 48kHz is down-converted to 48kHz/24bit. I'm just wondering if Ford is doing the same thing.

That leads me to flash drive size. My music takes up over 1TB, so the larger the drive, the better. I'm sure file indexing would take forever, but will it support a 512GB drive?

About the best info I could find on this

Ford help pages do not seem to have any mention of maximum storage capacity and playlist formats. There is a limit of 50,000 files per device in the handbook but it doesn’t make it clear if this is a limit of 50,000 files overall or mp3/flac files. The drive must be formatted in FAT32 format.

In that article from Oct 2016 he states that he used a 256GB external Samsung SSD on Sync 3. I have not been able to find anything more recent regarding the max file index count and Sync 3.4.

Just to follow up. I purchased a low profile 512GB flash drive and formatted it to NTFS. I loaded all my high res (96k/24bit+) FLAC files to it, which took up a little over half the drive, and put it in the slot. I powered it up and to my amazement, it indexed them all in a matter of seconds and started playing. The only issue I have is that sometimes I need to reselect the source when I start the car after it was sitting. It seems to want to default to Sirius.

I'll probably buy a second drive and load all my regular CD files copied at 44k/16bit to that. I think that's a better plan than trying to use a 1TB flash drive and hoping it worked. Anyways, I'm very pleased with the system!

Sorry to necro this thread but I'm recently going through the same process with my music files.

I've always formatted USB drives used in my Ranger to eXFAT. However, the other day I grabbed one that was NTFS and the system would not read it. Is there a trick or size limit to using NTFS?

The drive must be formatted in FAT32..

FAT32 only. See link above.

The one thing I’m aware of is not only how the drive is formatted it’s also the size. Larger sizes take longer to index. Better to have a few smaller drives so the system doesn’t choke trying to get through a whole massive index.
