Ford did a great job keeping the drivetrain and frame components tucked up above the bottom of the frame... except for the transfer case skid plate.

Piss poor design, looks like an afterthought? It screams "Scrape this thing off on the nearest boulder".

Every time I walk out to get in my truck... I see it hanging down.

I'm thinking of removing it.

Thoughts?

If you're not too concerned you can remove it if you like. I myself added it just because it's Extra Protection just in case. I myself have gone off road quite a few times and when I did Hayden pass I did scrape a little bit on that skid plate. My thought it was simple when I did scrape it. The skid plate did its job. All in all it's still your choice on what you do.

I'd leave it unless you're planning to replace it with something else. It does provide a small bit of protection and it's not hurting anything.

Replace it with the Shrockworks skid. It's incredibly stout and actually sits flush with the frame.
Do you have link to this product?

The Shockworks stuff is sexy! I'm not ready to be wheeling my Ranger in an environment that will need that much protection. But I may look at rock sliders in the nearer future though to protect that area of my truck.

And that's where I'm at. If I'm going off road in a rocky area, I'll take our Wrangler. I have installed Shrockworks Rock Sliders on our Ranger to protect the rockers from debris, and 'cause they look cool. Mostly 'cause they look cool. Excellent design.

But the transfer case skid plates.. don't see how that's needed on a truck that won't be rock crawling.

HenryMac ~ You shared you had installed the Shrockworks Rock Sliders. Do you have any pictures of the install and or finished look? Also, how do you like them now that you have had them on your Ranger, for a bit? How did the install go? Or did you have a shop install them?

Thanks!

I actually wrote up a DIY on the installation... Installation of Shrockworks Rock Sliders

They're great. Only issue is ice builds up on them, more on that here... RockSliders & Ice Build Up

Do you have any pictures of finished look?

Thanks!
