School me on window tint.

Planning to add tint to my '20 super cab before summer comes around. Just the front windows, back is already dark enough. Don't want it to be limo dark but privacy during the daylight hours would be nice. There are some places around here that install but I see things like "ceramic" and such and don't know if these are desirable features or just a gimmick.

So throwing it out there for the folks who know way more than me. What to avoid, what to look for, thoughts?

ceramic adds heat resistance. So your cab interior stays cooler in direct sunlight.

Go with ceramic. I live in FL and it actually is better with reducing UV damage and does not interfere with the electronics. I have encountered 2 levels of ceramic, 1 is reasonable the other very expensive, I take the less expensive option since my vehicle is garaged most of the time (i.e. $150-$200 vs. $400+).

My tint is legal level but not worth spending money for it's so light...how are people getting away with much heavier/darker tint?

Ceramic is more expensive but it will block out the heat and UV rays. If you plan on keeping your truck for a long period it's well worth it.

You wouldn't believe how dark some have theirs here. It's wayyy past the legal limit bordering on limo tint where you can barely make out there is someone actually driving. I have no idea how they can see at night. My Tacoma was darker than the limit (I cant remember what percent) and I had a hard time seeing at night. It does look good though. lol

We have inspections here and I'm trying to understand how people are getting by...I'm going darker anyway because my current tint looks like nothing on them... other trucks pull along side and I have no idea if they're waving or not because I can't see through their tint...

We have inspections here but they're only for older vehicles so I've never had to get one. Back in MA there were a handful of places you could go where they weren't that strict and you could just roll your front windows down. lol

other trucks pull along side and I have no idea if they're waving or not because I can't see through their tint...

See now you need a handheld spotlight. ?

+1 on ceramic tint. Go with a shop that's been around a while and guarantees their work. A guarantee doesn't mean much if the shop goes out of business.

I had my fronts tinted to legal in KY (35%) and it matches the back perfectly.

That's becoming a big trend here. Best friend lives in Vegas. He has his windshield tinted to 20%. You can barely see at night even with all the lights there. Get out of town and with the high beams on, you can't see squat.

I can't see at night with tint. I only have whatever factory tint the vehicle came with.
