We have inspections here but they're only for older vehicles so I've never had to get one. Back in MA there were a handful of places you could go where they weren't that strict and you could just roll your front windows down. lol

See now you need a handheld spotlight.?
Might get shot doing that lol...

Our law enforcement has better things to do than check tint levels.

Does it matter?
Ceramic is money well spent. If you want to match the back looking out then 20% will get you there. If you want it to match looking at the truck from outside then 15% is a better match.
Not all films are created equal. Look for Xpel, Global or Llumar ceramics. Many of the others films are okay but can have odd colors and tend to fudge their performance numbers. Look at 80% on the windshield if you want to block the heat but not have a tinted appearance. Makes a big difference since that is the largest window on the vehicle.

IMO go with a company that’s guaranteed for life. I’ve had to deal with my wife’s car, the tint started rippling and the installer replaced for free. On a previous truck it also started peeling. But I didn’t care, traded it in for a ranger.

Assuming that it hasnt been stated before you do this I suggest checking your state laws. Why you ask? Simply for the fact it gets you out of a ticket. There are outher reasons as well but I dont feel like digging into it much at the moment

It's harder to get away with anything when it comes to inspections in Massachusetts these days. All the inspection stations now have cameras mounted on the walls of the inspection bay that feeds back to the state to record the inspection process. Plus there is a portable camera the inspector walks around the car with and snaps a still of the front and rear plate and the VIN.

Window tint is rarely enforced here. I think 50% on the side windows is the legal limit here an that's what I went with. It looks darker than that. I guess the factory glass has a slight tint so it comes out to 45%. My daughter had 35% all the way around her Scion an got a $250 ticket. She left it on an didn't get stopped again. I looked into getting the windshield done to block glare an heat. The guy I go to suggests 85% on the windshield which I hear is either legal or accepted. I just got the visor done on top. I hear if you hit someone an they realize you have a tinted windshield they'll sue you claiming you didn't see them.

It wasn't that bad when I was there but they were just starting to redo all the inspection stations before I left. I'm all for safety but that's just crazy, it sounds more like a prison then an inspection station. lol

I cant imagine what the cost is now? When I first got my license it was only $4.00 for the safety inspection. There wasn't any emissions back then.

Lol....brings back memories of my military days. Ended up stationed in Phoenix with 3 cars w/o air conditioning. It was pretty brutal but I was SOOOO happy to leave Idaho it was worth it to me. We did end up tinting all 3 cars. Tint actually makes a big difference.

I was stationed in Pensacola FL an had a work car that sucked. It was a dark blue Honda prelude 5 speed no AC an manual windows. it was reliable an got good gas mileage. My friend was going to Japan an couldn't take it with him an I just paid a grand for it to clear the loan. I drove it 3 years an sold it for $750. Some one hit the rear fender an I got a insurance check for $1200 an I just kept the money an never fixed it. Miserable car to drive in 90 + temps but i did well money wise on it. It had the cheap tint on it that turned blue.

You wouldn't believe how dark some have theirs here. It's wayyy past the legal limit bordering on limo tint where you can barely make out there is someone actually driving. I have no idea how they can see at night. My Tacoma was darker than the limit (I cant remember what percent) and I had a hard time seeing at night. It does look good though. lol

AZ allows for pretty dark though and for good reason! I hate it when I see people move here from CA or CO and the front windows are untinted. What's the friggin point?

Lots of people here have a light tint on the FRONT windshield glass (legally a no-no). I ask how they get away with it and they say it's a don't ask, don't tell. As long as the cars other windows are dark, and the interior is black leather or fabric then the front windshield looks untinted - it's the brightest light and by contrast unnoticeable.

Planning to add tint to my '20 super cab before summer comes around. Just the front windows, back is already dark enough. Don't want it to be limo dark but privacy during the daylight hours would be nice. There are some places around here that install but I see things like "ceramic" and such and don't know if these are desirable features or just a gimmick.

So throwing it out there for the folks who know way more than me. What to avoid, what to look for, thoughts?

Send it...
I got my front windows tinted to match the rear (darkest allowed in my state) and went with the *medium" price range film. It keeps the cab slightly cooler

I don't know how you dealt without having no ac out here. I've heard the nights cooled off more then because there were less houses. buildings and concrete. Now it's one gigantic heat island and it'll still be 106 at 10:00 pm some nights. But as I write this today was dark, dreary and cold and a high of only 63. The weather has changed quite a bit since I first moved here.

Well these companies come in and convince the state that they have to do these kinds of things. The joke with the cameras is they do not record sound so loud exhausts are still at the discretion of the inspector and it is seldom anyone is rejected.

The inspection cost $35 per year. The sad part is it takes a good 1/2 hour to do everything the state wants but the inspection station only get $8 out of each $35 collected, the station also has to buy the computer equipment necessary to do the inspections and keep the bay available during normal work hours for inspections.

A friend of mine is the VP of a chain of tire and service centers and I asked him why they bother doing them at all. He said it is a service for their customers that they feel they need to provide even though the lose money on every inspection they perform.
