I am now moving on to my next mod - adding running boards, I like the look of the full board vs nerf steps, thinking in winter that I would have to focus where the step actually is and stepping on bar and foot sliding off. I'm wanting the boards mainly for:

1. Ease of getting in driver's seat - sliding across it, wear it out factor
2. Door Ding - Protection - from car door's anyways - other trucks probably won't matter
3. Help hide the hideous exposed pinch weld; I see that there are covers available for that issue, but I hope running boards will hide it too

From the various pics on this site, it appears that the Factory OEM drops down lower than the aftermarket ones and leaves the pinch weld exposed. With it being lower, am I correct in saying that I could still get door dings with factory.

From the various options - any benefit to the frame mount style vs pinch weld mount, other than off-roading durability

I'm looking at Go-Rhino - RB-10 or RB-20 - From the pics, it appears higher that factory, more even with door sill but I cannot really tell if it hides the pinch weld.
I'm not planning on doing any serious off-roading, so I don't think I need the Rock Sliders. Just basic simple running boards that will be durable and last without rusting out.

Guess, my post got buried, I'm mainly looking for Factory to Go Rhino comparison as far as Ground Height and Width of them installed and what is the most popular

Well I didn't have any steps to begin with, but I threw on the Go Rhine RB20 slim steps for the same reasons with the added benefit of helping to keep rocks and other crud from hitting the side of the truck. They sit reasonably high, and if you look for them you can still see the pinch welds, but its not as obvious as it used to be. They do also stick out further than anything else on the side, even with them being the slimmer option so I should be nicely protected from door dings from anything other than another truck.

Mine has factory running boards, the chrome type. The pinch weld is still very much exposed, and very much hideous =).

And the other day I noticed my first door ding after just three weeks of ownership (@#&*, ordered up some Dr. Colorchip to fix it up). The factory boards do protect my doors from our mini cooper and our miata though -- the ranger really is quite tall. Guessing a truck dinged me.

It's a tradeoff, either come down far enough to ease entry OR hide the weld.
The auto-folding/retracting boards, such as Amp-Research, are about the only ones that come down far enough AND hide the weld. But those are of $1659.

Cool, Thanks - My wife did ask -"How far will they stick out?" due to the fact that we have a narrow 2 car garage - She said - I'm NOT parking outside, so I guess I have to factor that in  , so I will have to possibly go with the slims, I think I remember reading that you can adjust them but It takes away from the actual step

Mine were factory or dealer installed when I bought it, I'm glad they were. I ain't getting any younger, and with an artificial hip every bit helps. And I'm six feet tall, I don't know how a shorter person would get in without them lol.

As far as width, I can't think they would make a difference when parking and if they do you're doing it wrong. Maybe @Tracy Bowman might have some parking tips ??

Not sure if you bought the truck brand new, but if you did you get Ford pass points worth a couple hundred bucks. Either way I think you will be happy, they both finish the lower profile. Post pics when you get them on?

I have been happy with the factory running boards on my XLT FX4. They are the right height for me and my wife to easily getting in and out of the truck.
