Rubber covers around tow loops in front of 2021 RangerXLT

Why are the rubber boots around the front tow loops on a 2021 ford ranger XLT called ram air ducts? Do they direct ram air to components that needs to be cooled? Would it hurt to leave them off? I am reinstalling air dams/splash shields around right front of bumper repaired by BBS.

They’re just covers for the bolts that hold the tow loops. Leaving them off won’t hurt anything. If you add a grille guard or bull bar, you can’t reinstall them anyway. I’ve had mine off since I added a grille guard a couple years ago.

These boots appear to go around the rear of the front tow hooks. They look like they act as a splash shield but Ford calls them a ram air duct.

So removing them makes the truck slower? Ram air hook shield meet ram air intake.
