I may try the performance tune, if it doesn’t reduce towing capabilities. I hope I’m not disappointed like I was with the Boss 302 red key.
They also have tunes for towing.

Change out your rear gear. Do really think ford screwed up the gearing and we are all going to have engine problems down the road because of it. My f150 ran about the same at 55 mph. I am sure it will be fine. Trust me.
Can I put that in the bank?

I think I was looking for a little more than “trust me.” I’d like to but I remember Ford in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Do you?

Can you explain if the engine is lugging or not at 60 MPH at 1,500 RPM or should I just trust you?

This engine/tranny combo have been out for a while with hundred of thousands of miles on them. You're not "lugging" your engine or putting excessive force by driving at 1500 rpm's! IF they ere problematic Ford would've redesigned them them. Unless you have engineering proof this is going to fail you're just assuming this is going to be problematic. I think the Ford engineers know a little more about this than you do but you're welcome to your theories.
Why do you present a theory but then deny me the right to one?

I asked a question based on a fact. Lugging is a fact. Is the engine lugging?

How is mine just a theory? I said the Ford has done extensive testing on these and having them out in trucks for many years is a proven FACT! Maybe you should just sell it and buy a mini van!

I think that if you grab a tune from Livernois, you can select between different tunes as desired... ie. tow/haul or performance. Might be a good option for you.

At the very beginning I stated that Ford is not Honda or Toyota. I’m not sure I trust their testing program as much as you do.

i remember me in the 70's 80's and 90's and I'm a whole lot different of a person than I was back then.
one might suspect Ford evolved too.
Very true but it looks like some are still stuck there. lol

When you lug your engine you put excessive force on it. Driving at ~1500 RPM over time may cause engine problems.
Since the engine isn’t making much horse power or torque at this engine speed is problematic.
False. The computer will not let the engine “lug”. You underestimate the Ford engineering department I think.

While I’m sure that your intelligence, strength, wisdom, and looks have only gotten better with age, you are not a corporation driven by profits.

Maybe.

I also wonder why two Ford service department under filled my Mustang with oil by several quarts. The first time, when I caught it, the engine did start shaking (I immediately turned it off) as you described.

There has never ben an oil light and the Ford tech told me the engine wouldn’t run if there wasn’t enough oil pressure to Adjust the camshaft, but it did.

I assume that if there are problems, the vehicle won’t be under warranty.

What has any of this got to do with our Rangers running at 1500 rpm at 65 mph?

do you get these characteristics?
the car will start vibrating and shaking. your engine will start feeling powerless and there will be no pick-up and response from the engine , and maybe even some knocking?
gotta agree,

the reason we had a 55 MPH speed limit during the fuel crisis was the vehicle had to move less air and the engine turned at less RPM, increasing MPG's. More RPM, more fuel needed, my 2002 Honda S2000 would get 30 mpg on the highway (Rpm at 4000) and 8 mpg at the track (rpm staying between 6000-9000). Toyota Tacoma where talked about early and a major complaint about the 3rd gen was the Transmission up shifting to the highest gear too early to help the EPA MPG rating. But Tacoma only has a 6 speed transmission and not enough gears to make that work correctly.
I dont think an engine turning 1500 RPMs while cruising is a problem, my 2012 SLK350 turns 1800 RPMS at 75, I dont worry about it one bit.

Late to this thread. At 67 years old, I have been driving a long time, mostly manual transmissions. So, I think I can say I know what lugging an engine feels and sounds like. Our trucks are not lugging at the RPMs we are running. Besides the transmission senses the torque required and downshifts as needed.

That said this thread has devolved into more of an argument than a discussion. I am not sure why Devil6 feels the truck is lugging, or what he is basing this feeling on. But, he asked our thoughts, and they were given. No need for any snarky attitude or comebacks.
