This question may be silly because I'm sure each dealer is different, but I wanted to see the forum members' experiences or suggestions.

When trading in, is it better to return to stock, or sell with all of your upgrades/mods?

Sure, I'd like to make a few bucks and sell the parts to someone on the forum that wants lightly used parts that won't break the bank like new parts would. But when it comes down to it, deals happen fast and scrambling to strip a truck down has its challenges. I was wondering if dealerships these days still prefer stock vehicles to sell. Thanks for any input!

I have some modest upgrades with things such as:
MBRP Cat-back Exhaust
Velossatech Big Mouth
Swing cases
Soft tonneau cover
black and smoked chrome emblems
and a few others
put it back to stock. im in the process of trading mine or selling mine and ive had it looked at a few times and it would bring a better price with it being stock. but with yours you really dont have a lot thats going to change anything minus your exhaust. the rest of that sounds like oem option stuff.

another thing to remember is that when you walk into a dealer with a carmax offer in hand they can match it or not but youare in a position of knowing that is a sure thing if the dealer low balls you
That's what I did and they did.
Except it was from the Auto Nation one block down the street.

Why wouldn't try selling it privately first anyway
The offer I got from the dealer was within a grand of what Carvana an Vroom were saying....Plus you don't pay sales tax on the trade in's value....so I would have to get 7% more selling it to break even. In my case that was a $1750 savings. I would have had to have gotten $26,750 selling it to get the same deal as the dealer giving me 25K. Seems to me when you're spending that kind of money most people go to a dealership. I can't think of anyone I know that has bought a 25-30K car from a private party.

Thanks for all the advice, yall. It took about a half-day to pull off and clean up the accessories. I ended up leaving the soft roll-up tonneau cover, (it's cheap, used, and I doubt it's worth the hassle.

Drove 1.75 hours to a dealer I had been speaking to for a few days, traded her in for only $800 less that what I bought her for, and got a F-150. The dealers in N. GA have plenty of inventory, have huge markdowns, and are motivated to move inventory before those 2024 roll in. I ended up getting a Tremor 402a $9k off MSRP.

I will try to make some time this weekend to snap photos and list a bunch of the Ranger's items in the forum Marketplace.
