As I said my SCab is in production, due for delivery in 8 days with the keypad.

None taken it's all good and we are all anxious about our trucks. I worry every day that my delivery date will change. My dealer still shows 1-21 to 1-27. But it is in production and the plant is 3 hours from my dealer. :)

I've got the FordPass app that unlocks my truck via my phone.

Does that need WiFi or cell signal to work? Or would that work in the mountains in place of the keypad?

Ut, I asked about that when I was in Kissimmee last weekend looking at a Lariat. The salesman told me that the FordPass app requires WiFi, and a subscription. The first three months are free. The subscription is for a cellular connection (supposedly $10/mo thru AT&T), which in remote areas like you are questioning might be iffy.

This must be a new change because I've seen dealer vids on YouTube that say FordPass is free for life. Wish we could get a straight answer on something...

This is the window sticker off the HPR Lariet in Kissimmee. Take a look at the right side FordPass Connect section. That definitely states 3 months / 3GB data complimentary service. Thinking about it, there is no way a cell phone app can get vehicle health reports or send a unlock code to a vehicle without a signal, be it WiFi, cellular or satellite connection and I'm pretty sure its not the latter.

It might be that some vehicles get perks that others don't, or maybe it's a bonus perk for buying from a particular dealer?

What's confusing is it's mentioned under the section on hotspot which seems slightly different. Either way it's not straight forward.

On the Ford Pass section of the Ford website, they mention that "if your vehicle is equipped with a Wi-Fi Hotspot, you can get usage data using Ford Pass". That tells me that Ford Pass works exclusive of any hotspot functionality. I'm with you guys though...if it doesn't connect with the data connection from the hotspot, does it have it's own, separate cellular radio and its own service to make that connetion?

I'm still holding out hope the FordPass app functions work independently from the 4G data plan

That is what I'm hoping. I'm hoping the FordPass functions will work on wifi, but if you want the hotspot connectivity or using FordPass over cell connections, you'll need to do the data plan ($20/month for unlimited is what I remember reading somewhere).

At this point I gave not activated any in truck wifi or anything and Ford pass is working for me so far, there was no mention of a charge for anything that I know of. There is the separate AT&T in truck Wifi hotspot 3 mo. 3gig trial, but I havent set that up yet.
