Just traded mine in on 12/30, so I've officially left the club, but will still be here to shitpost when possible.

2019 Ranger XLT Sport w/ 302A, Line-X, running boards, tonneau, and 41,500mi. Barely a scratch on it. No dents.

A Ford dealer offered me $27,500 but the deal didn't work on the vehicle I wanted to purchase. Went to a non-Ford dealer where I talked them up to $26,500 (from $24k) and pulled the trigger. They didn't believe me that I was offered $27,500 from the first dealer, but thankfully I had a copy of the proposal that I showed them.

I paid $28,500 for it in May 2020, so I figure $2k for 3.5 years and 38,000mi ain't bad and took their $26,500 offer since the rest of the deal worked well for me.
Seems like a reasonable offer, what did you end up trading for?

I went with a very lightly used 2023 Subaru Outback CPO with all the bells and whistles.

I think in 3.5 years of ownership, I can count on one hand the number of times I did something with the Ranger that I couldn't do with an Outback. I'm just not someone (at this point in life) who uses a truck for its intended purpose. I had 3 major issues with mine that were covered under warranty and the number of posts of people starting to have any number of issues now that these 2019's and 2020's are seeing some real miles scared me off. I wanted to get out of it while I could trade it in for nearly what I paid for it. Got a great trade in value and a screamer of a deal on the Subaru.

Wife has a Subaru and I have never had one bad experience at a Subaru dealer. I got laughed at the last time I asked for a loaner at the Ford dealer when they were going to have my only mode of transportation for an entire week. The Subaru dealer practically begs you to take a loaner for a simple oil change.

Your car, your money! You have to be comfortable with what you're driving. Good luck with the new ride.

Sorry for your experience with your Ranger. I have had good success with 8 of the 9 Fords I've had since 1982. The one exception was a low mile 1985 Tempo I bought in 1992; that one was a money pit. I sold it to a coworker of my wife's, and they blew it up 2 weeks later.
I'm not frightened off by all the bad experiences some on this site are having. my personal track record is pretty good with the Blue Oval, and, I think that if you login to any brand's forum, you will find that that is where people will freely rant about service, dealers, chronic mechanical issues. Fortunately I have an outstanding dealer, and in the 10 years I've used them, I have dealt with all of their departments. I service both my 2021 Ranger and 2009 Mariner there and the Ranger is the fourth new Ford I bought or leased from them.
I enjoy my ranger as a daily driver. It's empty about 355 days a year. the other 8-10+ I put my bike in the box and head out to some other time zone.

Back to topic:
There are as many different trade-in estimates as there are people estimating.
When I was in car sales, one Ford seminar held at another dealership that I attended, dealt with appraising trade-ins and what to look for at the customer level, but also at an auto auction. The rep pointed at a car in the customer parking area and told the two dozen or so of us to go out in groups of four and appraise it. we could talk among ourselves, but we had to keep our personal appraisal secret. We went on with the seminar, and then we had to reveal our estimates. They covered a range of $1800 on the same car! the next part was to discover why. Some had a buyer for such a car and bid it up. others had several on the lot already and lo-balled it. Others had no clue and took a shot in the dark. The end sentence is: whether you low ball or hi ball a trade, if you don't ask, you don't get. It is usually a good idea to get more than one quote. Think of a vehicle's trade estimate or asking price as a startng point and then somewhere a deal will be put together.

Was at the dealer today looking at an F150 to replace my Ranger. 2019, Lariat, 501A, bedliner, bed cover, running boards, the works. 40,000 miles on it. They offered $25k for it which seems way low to me. Anything comparable for sale around here starts at $32k, so I was expecting at least $28k. Not like there's a overabundance of new rangers sitting on lots right now either, so I can't imagine they would have trouble selling it. Guess I'm in the ranger till the CDF bushing gives up.

Anyone else have recent trade in values to compare?
I was quoted $29,500 19 fx4 with 26k miles on her

I'm starting to get upset! Down $2200 from Carvana, never thought it would go below $30k....dream on...it won't be worth anything by the time I get my 6g, scheduled for 1/8...

Thank goodness for KBB! I think Carvana is low-balling and probably most sites will, but KBB has been around for a while and I will use them to get the best from my dealer on trade, but I have a fall-back of a buddy who said he'd give me $32k for it as he just retired, lost his company car and likes my truck...That said, If I sell, I'll have to get at least a 6% premium over trade to cover the PA sales tax discount. As reference my sticker in 2019 was $41,385 incl. dest. My new 2024 on order is $44,900 similarly optioned. And although my truck is what I would say Excellent, I used Very Good condition which dropped about $1,000...

Comparing KBB value today to what it was the first week of December is now $2k less on the 2021 XLT Tremor I had for a reference point.

Side note: Friend of mine has a used car dealership selling both regular and specialty cars. He said the auctions the past few months have had a lot of no-sale bids. If I understood him correctly, the high bids were not being accepted as they weren't meeting reserve prices. The latest auction was a majority repeat of the cars he saw go through the prior month with most still not meeting reserve as he attempted to purchase them again.
Similar '19 Lariat, under 25K miles, clean Carfax was only offered $25,000 too...
Carvana offered almost $30K, Carmax $28 & change
It appears Carvana sold my Ranger & made a nice profit...... Good for them.

I'm afraid to say for fear of being ostracized from the Cool Kids Truck Club.
As long as you didn't get a Prius (I see you got a Subaru), we won't have to beat you with a pool noodle.

My wife has a 2015 Subaru and its a great car. If you don't offroad like we do, the Outback handles most tasks without issue. Congrats on the new ride.

The outback is a nice car to replace the ranger if you don't need the bed and towing capacity. I'm sure its quieter and rides a lot better. My mother has had a Crosstrek for a couple years, it's nice enough for the price and fairly peppy around town.

Seems like that sold very quickly, seems to prove that there's still a market for these trucks. Maybe the dealers are more pessimistic, but I think any ranger would sell in less than a month.

I just checked mine and Vroom is $1000 higher than Carvana.

Both have dropped a few thousand from months ago.

I learned something about trade-ins recently but it might only apply to my state (or I may have not heard correctly).
Apparently, the trade in amount at the dealership can be deducted from the taxes due on the new vehicle. So if i buy a new car at $50,000, the sales tax due at 10% would be $5000. but a trade in of $25,000 would mean I'd only have to pay the taxes on the remaining $25,000 of the new car price which would be about $2500 in savings out the door.
