Rat caught in cab of truck!

Hey, Ian, all kidding aside, I am starting to wonder if there are any rats or mice in my garage that might be thinking of my Ranger as their "dream home." What kind of trap did you use? I found something similar-looking on Amazon.com, described below. Is this it? I just want to "catch and release," not crush or poison the little critters.

If I do catch any rats or mice, I will just take them out in the woods at a nearby state park and let them go. I don't begrudge them the opportunity to make a living--I just don't want them living in my truck!

I had a tundra and a sentra and they were both destroyed by field mice and rats, they get inside the air vents and shit and piss inside there and you get poisoned by inahling that toxic fumes that never go away. Either me or them and I won't hesitate to take drastic measures to make sure they stay out.

I use live traps outside, release out of the area. They're part of the food chain - great raptor snacks.

In our garage ? GAME ON. I have several glue traps that will catch spiders, roaches, shrews, mice, rats, etc. Also an occasional lizard that I pry loose and release.

My main issue with kill traps is sometimes they maim instead of kill and then I risked it crawling back into my dash to die. In this instance the rat didn't do enough damaged to get me pissed and it was kind of cute so I released it in a ditch away from humanity.

I understand, and I agree.
I just didn't see the point of using 'peppermint' if you're going to poison them anyway.
Which I'd have no problem doing.
But so far, my peanut butter baited mouse traps seem to be doing the job.
I catch 2-4/wk in the traps at the firewood stack and the toolshed.
I throw then on the grass behind the shed and they're always gone the next day.
I figure I'm just supplying an easy dinner to the hawks/owls/foxes/etc.., so I'm doing my part helping wildlife.

My daughter had a mouse/mice chew up some wires under the hood of her 2020 explorer...which wasn't covered under warranty......My brother an niece had mice chew up wires under the hood of their early 2000's explores.

I can't park my truck in my 1 car garage since my Harley an lift table take up too much room. Think I'll throw some mothballs in the corners.

My daughter loves those fragrance warmers I told her to check for peppermint an put one in the garage.

Is it common for there to be unplugged holes big enough for rats to get into the cabin of the truck? About a week ago I found a bunch of rat crap in the jockey box. I set a trap inside the truck caught a huge freaking rat! This has never happened to any of our other cars.

Crazy! I had a pizza in the front seat of my 2020 XLT when I was camping. Packed up and went to drive away and noticed the napkins had all been chewed up and eventually opened up the glove box and found a ton of chewed up napkins, pizza, and papers. Field mice, I guess. But crazy that something as big as a rat could fit in there and that they were hanging out in the same place in our Rangers.

Rats are actually quite tasty. I tried some, grilled, on a vacation trip to Asia a few years back....

I had to take my brand new Ranger in and let the service guys clean out over a gallon of acorns from the air system. We found the air intake was unprotected / wide open. Hubbie was kind enough to create a 1/4" mesh cover to protect. But I was still trapping mice out of the cab for 6 months. I think they leave a scent trail that their buddies follow. I had poison, snap traps and sticky traps set all over in the cab baited with peanutbutter and was catching about 1 mouse every 2 days. It has tapered off just in the past month. We are building a garage now--hopefully that will eliminate some of the problem. I am glad I was persistent--our senior buddy just related he had to replace $3600. electric harness in his truck because of mouse damage.

I had a mouse in my truck. Little devil got into the headliner above the PAX rear seat. Bits of blue insulation foam all over the floor. Tried a "Organic Rodent Repellant" bag (neighbor swore by them) which didn't work at all. Shut off the HVAC system when departing the vehicle (or put the control to recirc) IOT close off the system. That worked but as was suggested, need to check the cabin filter. Little buggers might have chewed through it.

Another thing they did was chew up the insulation cover for the battery. Covered that with Flex Tape (left over from making a water tight boat and sealing by basement window) and that has kept them at bay. A little worried about the hood liner but so far they seemed to have turned in for the winter.

Just stacking the odds in my favor. Most people don't realize that rat feces is toxic and could land you in the hospital or worse

How did he get into the cab? I’ve had them under my hood but found seat material piled up in the driver side rear storage well..

DROWN or kill that thing. If you suspect more get a black or corn snake. I hate rats!!

Which is why I'd rather not use poison - it gets into the food chain. Could be a pet picks it up. Or, as happened to me, the neighbour puts out poison because he can't keep his trash secure and I ended up with a stinking corps in my basement ceiling - they sometimes go somewhere else to die. Not fun to have to deal with that.
