Quick question, the other day I turned into a parking lot(empty) to turn
around & decided to just do a 180 for fun. So, it did, no issue.
Should traction control have stopped the truck from doing that?

Not a Ranger in the picture (there is a snow covered F150 if you look hard enough) but a backyard snow shot for Tracy or anyone else that didn't get the pleasure of a white Christmas.
Had 12 " of white and fluffy Christmas eve into Christmas day. Cleared my drive and 2 neighbors Christmas morning before opening gifts and enjoying the family the rest of the day.

So, while waiting for my Ranger to be delivered I cut a few hundred yards of trails in the woods on the back of my property. It's flatland here, but I found the bumpiest terrain available, and have a little area to test the Ranger. It did quite well.

They salt in Tennessee now? I don't remember them doing that 20 years ago when I lived there.

We got a bit snow here so we are XCing. Not enough to be bragging. Looks like the lake will keep it up looking at NOAA forecast. Ask if don't know what lake snow is. Many more photos can be had on the dogs blog!

My traction control just flashes on the dash and tries to keep up with what I'm already doing. I'm not sure that it is supposed to handle a forced 180. :)

We got about 2.5ā€ today. My area has pretty steep hills, up to 15%, with narrow streets. There is one street that intersects my street that is at least 20% for 600 meters and another for 300 meters.

The truck worked very good on unplowed roads in 4WD, secure, no concerns. While climbing hills at about 30 mph, I switched the terrain management to snow and it was as if the engine became detuned. Probably a useful strategy on level ground but on a hill the change in available power was pretty significant.

My street runs parallel on the hill I live on and has slight inclines and declines. As I thought I was safely on my street I turned the truck to 2WD to prepare to make the tight turn into my drive. Then I entered a ā€œTā€ intersection where the perpendicular shorter steep street forms an intersection that is slightly off camber with a slight kink. The rear end slid out with the rear slipping downward into the opposite curb and the truck unable to right itself. Quickly switching on 4WD fixed this.

But, what I learned is that while I have pretty good off road experience I underestimated something pretty pedestrian that I do every day. If the car that normally parks there had been there, I would have made a new friend in the snow.

Understanding your environment and conditions is just as important as understanding how to use your equipment.

Yea, well, my car won't let me do that but that's in summer & I don't use my
car in the winter so the car may do the same in winter, so scratch that issue.
I'll need to test on dry parking lot.

Drove my Ranger up our steep driveway and on snowy roads in 2H today and no problems. it drove like it was summer, but I did drive a little slower in places.

i had one person flash me the other night, thinking I had my high beams on, because of the weight in the back. I also had one pail finding it’s way from it’s position, to along side the bin I had in the bed and would sometimes move around when I braked or accelerated quickly. All that plus I didn’t mind having two pails of sand at the ready, until I refill 5 empty ones, I decided to take two of the six pails out and reposition and secure them better. I used a ratchet strap on the two forward tie downs to secure it.

I still have about 240 lbs of weight in the bed, with two pails directly over the rear wheels and two slightly forward of them.

So with this most recent storm, it was a clipper and so brining would have done no good. However, they wait until the last possible second to apply salt or plow. Snow started 2 PM Christmas Eve. Trucks didn’t hit the road until Christmas morning. On Christmas morning it looked like they had made one pass, opened up one good lane in either direction and called it a day. Little to no salt and snow still everywhere. A sorry sorry job of making the roads safe.
