Hi Everyone,

I'm not quite yet an owner of Ranger, and I've never owned a vehicle with part time 4x4, so I've been wondering can you use the electronic shift on the fly (esof) at any speed, and switch between 2h and 4h as needed? Lets say you're on some country roads in the winter, and sections of the road are going in and out between bare asphalt and snow drifts (lets say 1 km of each) - as I'm driving up to a snow covered section could I just switch to 4h and not even slow down? and then switch out cause I've hit pavement now and the road is turning (to avoid binding up) ?

Cheers

As long as you don't make sharp turns on high traction surface (asphalt, concrete, packed dirt, rocks), I would just throw it in 4h and leave it there even if there's more than a km between the snow drifts. I drive 30km in the winter and when there's snow on the ground that's what I do and disengage when I want to park.

Always try to be on a level surface while not pressing the gas pedal to switch to 4h or back to 2h, always makes it quicker with no weird noise in my experience.
