2022 Cactus Gray XLT on order
Hi guys ,

Been a lurker here for a little bit and wanted to get your advice on a new purchase. Dealer by me has a Carbo Gray XLT with 302A, Off Road, technology and black appearance packages. It’s been sitting on their lot for 50 days and they offered it to me at MSRP.
My wife’s family has been with this dealership for a very long time and have purchased or leased about 15-20 cars from them. Her grandmother worked for Ford and they were able to get a lot of cars at z-plan prices until she passed away. Since then they have still bought every car there. Now I know that inventory is low and many cars are going above MSRP, but I can’t help but feel a little annoyed they won’t go any lower. (Asked for a Tonneau cover or $42k, price is $43,635) Especially since I have been offered MSRP at another dealer near me. My preferred color is cactus gray anyway so I’m thinking I should just go elsewhere.

Thanks in advance.

Some Ranger owners on here have gotten the Xplan. Maybe some can comment on how you go about getting the Xplan.

find one in the color you want, but you may never get the price you want.
you can always get a part time job or start an OF page to cover the difference, but you'll never get the sour taste out of your mouth if you settle for a color you didn't want.
I agree with Ranger Pride 100% I drove 150 miles 2 years ago to buy a 2019 Lariat w/Platinum tri-coat, chrome pkg and medium stone interior. I absolutely knew I would regret if I had settled on any one of those items. I got a great deal back then, but I would have paid a couple thousand more if needed. Buy what you really want and enjoy! Yes, you will smile more too :)

I understand. I've bought 9 new Fords from my local small town dealer since 1986, and do all my service work there. When I ask about their new Bronco pricing they treated me like a first time walk-in customer. The loyality seemed to be a bit one sided to me, so I went else where to reserve the Bronco. Screw 'em, get the color you want. If they don't care about your families loyality to them, you don't owe them anything.

Dealerships don’t extend ‘loyalty’ to customers. In today times, if you find the color and features you like for straight MSRP, buy it. That’s what I did with a factory order (still waiting on VIN!), and as fair as you’ll find. Sucks though. I like $200 over invoice but those were the before times.

When i ordered a '21 back in Aug, it was at MSRP, it was ultimately cancelled by Ford in Nov. the dealer offered me another one they had coming in that was ordered for stock but not the color or options i wanted, and that one was $1500 over MSRP, i asked why and salesman said orders are at MSRP in stock and ordered for stock are over. I thanked him and said I'll pass and left, found a low mile perfect '19 and am thrilled with it so far.
Good Luck in your decision.

Your easiest path to X-Plan is join the Mustang Club of America. Now the downside is that you have to be a member for 90 days minimum before you can use it.

When we started looking at cars for the wife about 6 mos ago - lots were EMPTY. They never had anything. We got tired of going to a lot to see a car and what they had listed as "inventory" was 6 states away, on order, in transit, on a train, already pending a deal just waiting on it to go through.

So we stopped for a while. Then we went back a few weeks ago and bought. All the car lots were about 80% full. Stock and inventory was coming back. The car she was looking for was kinda special so we did have to search a bit. They lest us out the door (eventually) for 1K under sticker.

Don't be afraid to walk out. Car dealerships have had it good for a while. They got lazy and stared adding on fees and shit. Charging for "market demand" and that's fine - capitalisim. But that supply and demand ratio isn't as out of whack as it was a few months back so don't them them bend you over the tailgate and take turns with you.

I’ve looked at the website. It’s a nice truck. Trying to figure out why it’s still there…especially at that price.
I have no idea. I didn't buy my Ranger there so I only see what's on the lot by driving through or going online. It looks fine to me.

You did that dealership a huge favor by buying a Ranger off the lot with a chrome package.

They could smell the boomer from miles and miles away. ;)

Just joking around haha
