MirrorTap Installation:
  1. pull down firmly on the upper plastic housing
  2. locate the light grey connector (w/ 3 wires) and disconnect male & female (shot was taken before tightening Blendmount fully to stem. Don't flame me)

  3. Insert positive (red) wiretap below the Blue (switchable 12V) wire
    20190318_212440.jpg
  4. Insert ground (black) wiretap below the Black (ground) wire
    20190318_212526.jpg
  5. Heat shrink your connections
  6. I used a 5/32 bit to make an opening to route my cable through the plastic housing

Could I use this mirror tap to power a radar detector and a dash cam?

I believe they do sell MirrorTaps compatible with various dashcams. I'm not sure about powering multiple devices using multiple WireTaps though. You might want to ask their customer service (which is amazing BTW!).

Found a Blendmount and Mirrortap in the mail tonight. Installation was pretty simple, with easy-to-follow instructions provided by the manufacturer. Everything took about an hour.
Did you get the MT-2010 with the .050 taps or the MTX series with the assorted tap sizes?

I ended up getting the mtx and used the .045" tap, though I think you might be ok using the.050" if you want to save the extra $15.

The taps are pretty delicate and they can sometimes break easily if you force them too hard. The mtx is nice because you could just swap out the broken one with another tap thats included really easily. Blendmount's customer service is top notch and when I broke a tap installing many years ago they sent me a replacement tap free. So I guess it just depends if you want to play it safe and spend the extra $$ just in case you might break one.

I went with the MTX with assorted sizes because I wasn't sure which size I would need.

Have any of you removed the bigger plastic trim around the rearview mirror mount? Wondering how it comes off so I don't break mine.
I had mine off to install radar detector and it was very hard to remove also. I used plastic pry tools and pulled straight down very hard and it came down. I put silicone grease on it to reinstall.

Thanks for the reply. I actually got it removed before I read your response. That thing is very tight, much tighter than it needs to be. I can definitely see someone accidentally breaking the plastic attached to the windshield where that piece mounts to if they're not careful when removing.

Just checked my email this morning. I'll be beta-testing a new Blendmount soon!
Excellent write up for the mirror tap made it so easy. BTW would you please share the "blendmount part # u used for mounting ur Radar Detector as I have the same brand detector. The reason I am asking is that I do have 2 Blendmount laying around and if the part # is identical I wont have to spend $150 for another Blendmount.
TIA
