...which were crap compared to current standards. And irrelevant, as it's a minimum standard, and some cars are designed to exceed the minimum standard. Or do you really believe that every new car on the road today behaves exactly the same because it complies with the same minimum standard?

What do steering columns have to do with crumple zones? I mean, it's good that modern steering columns are no longer crushing/impaling people, but it's also (in my opinion) beneficial for people to not be killed by other parts of the car. I'm in favor of front windshields collapsing under impact and seatbelts and a zillion other changes we've seen over the years--I don't see a reason to just pick one and decide it's enough.

Yeah, ok. I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. You don't know when crumple zones were invented, or you just don't believe in them? Whatever, really doesn't matter. The science is pretty clear that occupant safety is improved when the car absorbs impacts away from the passenger cabin. Yeah, it means small crashes result in more damage as a trade off for fewer people dying in big crashes. The next big changes will probably be driven by reducing how many people get killed when cars hit them, and you'll probably be losing your shit over what that does to the design of the front end and recounting amusing stories of the good old days when a guy could run a model A over a dozen kids without even slowing down.
"Yeah, ok. I'm not sure what you're trying to say here."
That appears to be the only salient point you have made in relation to my comments and one to which I wholeheartedly concur.
Thank you,
It is always a joy to read your posts, even when you occasionally run off the rails or get side tracked.
Every reply you have made so far to my comments in this thread has been tangential at best, and irrelevant at worst.
While you have made some valid observations, Our "trains of thought" have yet to share the same "track".
I have now examined the last straw from the mind of the strawman which you have constructed and found it wanting.
Perhaps we will once again cordially share our views, but I fear we have reached a confounded conclusion for now.

For the time being I will accept without implication the wise admonishment of Proverbs 26:4. and wish you only the best.

Here's another 2 cents worth here. Lots of posts about Fender mis-alignment etc. This should prove as a learning moment for all of us to do a thorough walk around of the vehicle before we take delivery. (I've never done it either - Shame on me).... We get caught up in the excitement of the new rig, we forget to do that. How I can manage to do a walk around of a rental car every single time, but didn't do one on my own new truck is beyond me! :) Fortunately, my fender alignment issue that I had was a 5 min fix and all good. There's my funny 2 cents on this

I'm guilty too. I walked around looking for any dents, dings and scratches, but not much more. Never occurred to me to look for doors that didn't align or close flush mainly because I never saw a problem in any of the Fords or Mercury's I've owned the last 4+ decades.

I took the risk and flew to another state to get my truck. The deal I negotiated after the second full month of Covid lock downs last year couldn't be passed up.

Upon arrival, they brought the truck out for me to inspect and take a test drive (no salesman). I took it through the streets and then the hwy to run it through its paces. After that, I took it to a quiet empty parking lot and inspected it from bumper to bumper. This included under the hood, lifting out the rear seats, paint check, checking all windows, door locks, going through the manual, and etc.

The only thing that stood out somewhat was the hood and fender alignment. That didn't bother me because I knew I could fix it myself. Coincidently (or not), it was the same issue I had with 2016 Mustang GT.

I took my 2019 in for it's fifth or sixth warranty visit today. 8k miles and the center console armrest cover is coming apart. Dealer says Ford won't cover under warranty, says it looks like I tore it up. Great customer relations. I use it as an armrest and console cover; no pets, cargo stays in the bed. Did I mention 8000 miles in 2 years? So, for what it's worth, I used Ford's customer service chat to raise a case for having it fixed under warranty. Service writer says my options are $300 for a replacement or take it to an upholstery shop. Oh, and the pin that releases the rear seat center armrest broke. At least they'll cover that. And the seat back latch TSB.... They sold these for 7 years before bringing them to the states? What a joke. At least it's worth more than I paid for it. Let's go Brandon!
In spite of common origins , they did not sell "these" trucks for seven years prior to the sale of the North American Ranger. Did you take it back for the tire pressure being too high as some folks have, or some equally poor quality control issue?
Maybe this will help...

So far, I've noticed that the bottom rear corner of my driver front door sticks about 1/8" out from being flush with the rear door. It doesn't seem to affect the weatherstripping seal, as no water is getting by and there isn't any noticable increase in road noise.

That and what appears to be a small leak/condensation issue in the dash.

Neither are close to being dealbreakers for me, and I already have an appt. at the dealership. Other than that, I'm just desperately waiting to get my seat covers and floormats in to protect what seems to be a pretty fragile interior from my kid.

I am impressed with the superior quality of the upholstery in my STX, which is the same as the XLT as part of the package.
What really is impressive though is the quality of the base XL upholstery.
Most entry level trims are clearly lacking in comparison to the upgrades, not so with the XL.
It is certainly durable, but also subjectively perhaps the best looking trim level in the Ranger.
So far (2-1/2 years) my interior is just as perfect as the day it was delivered, not even a stain.
The only thing which I thought was odd was that they did not include the contrasting thread on the backseats of the SuperCab to match the front.

There are other manufactures other than Ford, GM and Dodge that builds cars in the US, I wonder if they have the quality control issues.... Oh wait, I almost forgot, they dont have UAW.
Now wait, dont anybody blast me about bashing Unions, I'm not, just saying.

I can remember the Ford rep telling me he hates the UAW, a guy could screw up on the job, been drinking, they slap his wrist, send him home (with pay) send him to a class or rehab, he comes back and does it again, the cycle repeats itself over and over, but that was in the 90's and hopefully is not like that anymore!!

Somewhere in here is a post about the center console lid cover coming undone, and the poster being told it was not a warranty issue.

I have the same thing happening to my 2019 XLT, and my service advisor DID put in an order to replace it under warranty. That's really the only "defect" I can find in fit and finish to my Ranger. To that end, it's been an excellent truck.

Yes, they do and at a much greater rate than Ford.
None of them has built a single truck with better fit, finish, performance, or reliability than my Ranger.
I am glad they keep trying though!

Nothing on my F150 is aligned properly, so I somewhat expect the same if not worse on my ranger whenever it gets built...

take my f150's door for example; Top of the door frame hangs low, the front edge is way too close to the fender(in the middle). The rear-edge of the door sticks outward a quarter an inch. basically the doors are horrible on F150s.

I'm used to Ford having poor panel alignments at this point...

Seriously, if you really thought someone else made a better product... Why not buy it?
That would help keep the price down and the competition up on the best trucks in the industry,
which for several decades has been Ford.
