Rhino-Rack is coming out with a product shortly (in a few days they told me via email) called the Backbone mounting base. You will be able to put their Pioneer platform (or tray) on it. But from “how-to” videos I’ve watched on Youtube it seem like a job for professionals, as in lots of cutting (of molding), drilling, caulking, etc... since the Ranger doesn’t have the pre-drilled holes in the roof.

Considering adding one fixed point to the cab to go along with a topper rack system for longer loads like 18' canoes. Has anyone looked into this option from Yakima for a fixed roof mount? I did this with my fiberglass topper on my Tacoma but am a bit nervous drilling holes in the roof of the cab from a waterproofing perspective. A plus is when you don't need the cross bar you can easily remove and you're left with two small "caps" that I think would look fine.Overall installation looks easy enough. Thoughts?

So.... there is one bolt or stud on the end of each aluminum trim piece that goes down through the roof on each end. These are attached with a nut which can be accessed by dropping the headliner... there is no threaded rivets or nutserts in the roof... I just installed the Rhino Rack and had to drill and rivet 16 holes (8) per side to make this work...

Just spoke with Rhino Rack... They will have healthy stock Mid July and won't be releasing part #s until then. If you have any questions regarding the product I would give their customer service a shout +1 303 706 9700

I think that they might do ok for lightweight loads, but the fact that they are placed (at least with the pics they show) in "no man's land", there is little support provided. I like dangeranger's solution above--supported the entire length and on or near a more "load-bearing" location. I'd like to get the track system and see what they have for cross bars (or make my own), but the ones they show on their website are pricy...just like everyone else

I'm using my existing Thule racks to carry my 17' and 18' kayaks. To hold my 58" square cross bar over the cab, I ordered a Traverse foot pack set of two. There is no Traverse fit kit for the new Ranger, so I ordered fit kit #1827 used for the Tacoma and it fit perfect. On the back, I have the Thule goal post that hooks into the hitch receiver.

The Traverse half foot pack and fit kit cost me about $150 total after 20% off at REI. Thule recommends the new Evo rack system for about $460 or their bed rack system for about $800. Way too costly for me considering I already have most of the old style racks. Plus no drilling required and I can remove these racks in the winter when they're not needed.

Does anyone know what is under the straps of the Ranger roof? Can I take advantage of threads under the cover of the straps? On Toyota and Nissan they have threads you can mount a rack, but I am not sure what is under my Rangers roof.

Currently there is no permanent style track conversion for the US Ford Ranger but Rhino Racks is developing for release soon. If you have a Crew cab you can order through Rhino Racks Australia. I have an inquiry in to them at the moment for the Supercab...waiting for reply. Their system is a replacement track that allows you to install Yakima/Thule style towers that lock into place, otherwise you can go with an aircraft door style clamp on...not my choice though.
