All, I went out and started the truck to go to the gym this AM and while backing I to the parking spot my yellow right rear sensor was beeping and on. I got out and looked at the taillight and it was clean and didn't appear to have any water in it. When I came home backing into the driveway it didn't beep or anything for the 1st 40 ft and the came on. I put it in reverse and neutral back and forth with intermittent success. I backed up and drove forward 4 or 5 times and sometimes it comes on and sometime not. The connector is clean and dry. Any ideas? Is there a way to check the sensor?

Probably not the bliss system in the tail light but the bumper sensor. Make sure no dirt around the sensor. Being in Florida you most likely don't have ice on the sensor. :p

Yes - The BLIS is for Cross-Traffic alerts when in reverse.
The parking sensors in the bumper - R-Outer is either dirty, has wax on it or try reseating the connector.

I just dealt with that on my 2023 Lariat. My front passenger sensor was the problem but it affected the rear, also. The rear actually was worse. They replaced the front one and I'm a week with no issues. Even had a snow and blow.

I went out and reseated both right side connectors several times. Drove over to the Dr and they worked good. Got back home and back on again. I'm going to switch one side to the other today and see how that goes and determine whether it is the sensor or connector.

When I replaced my fog lamps. I apparently moved my front passenger sensor a little. It would false alarm intermittently when driving forward into garage or slow entering dips in pavements. I noticed that the sensor has a slight cupped area and there is a home position for these sensors. Once I realigned it with reference to how the others were mounted it worked as it should.

That's interesting. These things are so sensitive.
I would like to shut them down in the winter.

So I figured it out, sort of. I bought the truck a year ago and transfered the bump step to the Ranger and didn't have any issues for 11 months. Removed it to pull a car hauler trailer and changed back mid Jan and a week later the sensors started acting up. Didn't put 2 and 2 together until tonight. Removed the step and backed up at least 10 different times and works like it should. No clue why it worked for 11 months and the when put back on it didn't. I guess I'll just keep the trailer ball on all the time.
Thanks all for the insights and troubleshooting assist.

Glad you figured it out Eric. Wonder if others have a problem with anything in the hitch.

Sid (Misfitoy) has of those on his truck. Check if he has any issues.

Since this was working and not triggering a false alert at one point, I would check the installation security of the R-Inner sensor, as if it became dislodged from (secured) position it is tilted and or it became overly sensitive for some reason.

The parking aid system detects objects under the following conditions:
  • The vehicle is in REVERSE (rear parking aid)
  • The vehicle is in motion in any gear except NEUTRAL (front parking aid)
  • The vehicle is moving toward the object.
  • The vehicle is stationary, and the object is moving toward the vehicle.
  • The vehicle and object are both moving toward one another.
Specs are: (Approx)
70 Inches from Bumper
20 inches from Bumper (sides)
12 inches off the ground

So, if the Step Was installed previously and it was not generating alerts, then I would check the Right Inner sensor to ensure its not partially out of the locking tabs.
It depends on which sensor was triggering the alert (R-Inner) or (R-Outer)
If it was the (Inner) it would have been a longer (Bar Indication) Horizontal with the R-Rear Bumper, the (R-Outer) would have been a short bar (indication) on the (R-Rear) Corner.
The Inner sensors both equally cover the center of the bumper, so I would suspect that with the step equally covering (surface area) and it was an issue then both inner sensors should trigger and pick up (object)

I had some work done on my front bumper shortly after I bought my truck and the shop put the sensors back in upside down. Got false alarms constantly.

In the rear I have a sparebumper.com SuperBumper which is similar to the Tyger step. It's never triggered the sensors so I don't know why you might be experiencing that?

I removed the connector and pulled out the sensor and then reinstalled it correctly. Reconneded the connector and still got a few phantom flashes over several days. I just put the step on upside down for now and all is well.
