I believe the 1G Escort debuted in 1965, replacing the Cortina. The RS pictured is a '67 or older; the '68s has side marker lights.
Wikipedia says Ford Escort 1G was '81 - '90. Is the one in the OP a different species?

Kinda like the Ranger. Wikipedia is talking about US Escorts. That's a ROW Escort.

The Escorts over there were quite a bit different than the shitboxes we got.

The North American market Escort, which shares few things other than the name with the ones sold in other markets, debuted in the fall of 1980 as a 1981 model. It replaced the Pinto and was Ford's first front wheel drive car on these shores. I had an' 82 GL 2dr at one time.

Ed Zachary, the ROW versions always seem more appealing. Why do theyhave that “ insert feature “ ?
