i do mine myself. cheaper and i know its done correctly. however I typically make just as much mess as a sloppy dealer tech. When the oil stain on my driveway gets a bit faded i know its time for an oil change...

Decided not to give the dealer another shot at my Ranger. Cleaned up the skid plate, drained the oil blend. Finally, was able to get the filter off using some extra persuasion.

Standard wrench on right would not do the job. Had to resort to the one on the left with grousers. Filter was clearly put on too tight. Filled it with 6 quarts and 6 ounces of full synthetic. Installed proper Motorcraft filter.
Now I can leave on our planned 4000 mile camping trip out to the NW knowing I've done the best I could do to get ready.
Guess, I will just do all my own changes from here on out. Easy hours work. About 1/3 the money too.
This was only my 2nd oil change on the Ranger and I did something better this time. I had an old piece of a shop vac extension, a tapered plastic tube, laying around. It fit snug over the filter drain and let the oil from that run down further back where it was easy to catch in a shallow pan. I also let the filter drain out into that drain for several minutes before I completely removed it. Much less mess that way.

years ago i had a neighbor that was a metrosexual kinda guy. he got regular mani pedi done drove an econo car etc. never touched a wrench in his life. but a nice guy none the less. his wife was better looking than the guy next doors wife should ever be?, and very sweet. me and the neighbors would all cook out and drink beer. one night she mentioned that she wished he knew how to use tools or fix stuff... me and the other guys laughed at him a bit.
next time for an oil change on my farm truck i made sure to use more big shiny tools than needed and got good and dirty in the process?‍?. she waved and smiled a naughty lil grin at me. she used to work on her tan in the front yard in this metallic green bikini. kind of bikini where they tried to just throw something on and missed most of the target ... and thats how i ended up sweating bullets in confession ? trying to explain i was minding my own bizz changing oil and then... not really I resisted advances lol ?/ ?.
but, that is when i decided id do my own oil changes forever... makes a man have more swagger for a day or two :captain:.
