I've had one vehicle totalled under insurance. Not a whole lot of experience, but in my situation the adjuster claimed the threshold was 50% of value. State regulations, policy differences, and maybe even owned vs leased may account for differences in the threshold.

In my situation no airbags deployed, but the shock tower was moved. Car would not have ever been the same unless I was VERY lucky. Insurance was hemming and hawing on totalling it due to value. I visited the body shop, chatted with the owner, and expressed to him that while I didn't want him to commit any fraud, I really didn't want to have to deal with the car going forward. Next day I got a call from the insurance company asking how I wanted my money.
I owned a BMW Z3. I was rear ended at a stop sign. The insurance offered me 7k. I refused, told them to tow it. The book was about 17k. The estimate to repair was 14k. the insurance would not total the car...and it cost about 26 k to repair with the car rental. I sold the car shortly after because I didn't trust it. Everybody lost.

I don't know if all dealers are like this but the AutoNation chain will only offer $1000 on a trade in for any car with an airbag deployment. Corp policy has them wholesale them out. I would be glad it's a lease. Good luck on getting it fixed Ponytail. (I had this happen when I traded my 05 ranger for my 19).

It's part of the beauty of leasing. In fact i used to bring it up when discussing a lease sale.

It shouldn't be that way but we (men) know, there is nothing more attractive than a woman driving a truck. I'm sure @Tracy Bowman can attest to being honked at.
FYI, drove a 78 3/4 ton all through high school

lo

lol, a date might be nice first. And this Montana girl isnt moving to New York
I don't blame you, there isn't enough money to get me to move there! I lived in MA and that was bad enough. Funny because I was only a few hours away from NY and have never been there. I love it out west and MT and WY are on the list to visit.

I worked in Wyoming (and area)for a few months one winter.
Thats all I will say about that.
I got the F550 with a trailer majorly stuck in the snow. And nearly got arrested by the state patrol for some placard, licensing issues .
The antelopes were fun.
Yaaaa, you shouldnt go to Wyoming in the winter.

I know a person who bought a new f150 a couple years back. Got rear ended a few weeks after purchase, bent the axle, and it took ford 8 months to provide them with a new one. Good luck! #NewPartsProbs

I don't understand what you are saying. Either they offered to pay you $7k to total it or they refused to total it? Sounds like you guys had a disagreement on value. For what it's worth I remember my adjuster stating they always used NADA book value.

The adjuster offered to repair the car for 7k. I laughed at him. The frame was bent, the side panels were all skewed...there was visible damaged all over the car. The adjuster thought he'd cut me a check for 7k and walk away. I told him to take it to the shop and get it adjusted correctly. That's when the repair bill amounted to 14k. If the book is 17k...the insurance thought they'd save 3k because they refused to total the car when I asked them to. When the car was finally finished...parts had to come from Germany...the cost was 26k.
So, by not totaling the car...the other's guy insurance had to cough up an additional 9k (over book). Seems to me the 3k they were arguing about was a much better deal. That car should have been totaled, instead, it was sold as a wrecked car and I was reimbursed for the loss of value because of a wrecked car. That cost was not included in the 26k. I still miss that car. (sigh)
