Just saw the news that GM is shutting down production along their entire line of vehicles for at least 2 weeks due to no semi-conductors available.
Can only wonder if Ford and the rest won't be too far behind.
Probably also means that any separate component under warranty that has/needs a conductor will also be in very short supply.

From what I've read they'll be doing weekly shutdowns when needed. Now as far as Ford sales go, they're not looking to good.

https://www.foxbusiness.com/lifestyle/ford-sales-down-33-august-chip-shortage

Ford Motor Company sales plummeted 33.1% in August compared to last year as it continues to deal with supply issues strangling the industry. The performance was poorest of all the major automakers reporting for the month, including Honda (-15.6%) Subaru (-14.7%) Toyota (-2.0%) and Hyundai, which saw a gain of 2.4%.

Why not...bet you can get into a 60 year old car or truck with one, and it still works !!!
And, it doesn't need no stinkin chip !!!
Chips, Chips ! We don't need no stinkin chips !!!
A stinkin chip left me stranded on the side of the road, and all I had to eat was my sombrero !
See, I already started to nibble on it !!!

Hi Steve,

When I hired into Ford in 1973......We had carburetors and a couple vacuum lines. Then we ventured into "computer control" with EEC. Electronic Engine Controls. In 1983 or so we had electronic controlled carburetors... This matured until in 1985 Model year where we went to EFI with the computer controlling this mess being the size of a Carry On bag... Our development engine processors developed to the point where we were using EPROMs called 1632 chips...ten of them... Little windows in the chip to introduce UV light and blast off the electrons to be able to reuse the chip... Then we got wind of ECT...Electronic Control Temperature... Now it was not just the engine but also the climate system, and oh..yeah...the transmission shifting too... Crap...it got so complex and so today...here we are...so chip dependent in so many arenas with limited production...

In our house, we cannot flush the toilette without activating our Bidet toilette seat to wash our rear ends......Nice warm seats though....

Best,
Phil

Wow foot clicker I forgot about those. I had a Dodge Polara with one. Push button trans and park was a throw lever.

Regarding the chips, having an old truck or something like a KLR650 feels like good insurance these days. I've started browsing the classifieds myself.

Old Ford joke about that, that was going around years after GM adopted turn signal stalk hi beam switching... "Yeah, Ford experimented with that, but decided against it because too many drivers were getting their foot caught in the steering wheel..."

I still have my 1990 Bronco and it still has all those items fully functional!

And on 35" tires/4.56 gears, the primitive EFI can put away some petrol... ??

On another note, all the plant shutdowns are driving the used prices up again.

My Carvana offer had dropped $3.5k below their high.

Today it went back up $1k.

Still lower than Vroom and almost the same as Carmax.

I've got a 1944 Ford Jeep like that, still goes fine, but tries to kill me every time I drive it, in anything other than a straight line, I'm surprised anyone came back alive from WW2.
