Hi All,

I have been lurking here for a couple months in preparation for my new 22 to show up. Well after 4 months my new 22 Screw Lariat finally arrived a couple days ago. Loving the new truck. I've been in F150's for quite a few years and have a question about the differences in the gear indicator. I know about the sport mode and manual shifting and display of the gear indicator. In my F150 I traded the gear indicator was activated the same way as the Ranger, with the + button on the gear shift. I noticed on the ranger when I activate the gear indicator it works fine in D or S but when I turn off the truck and then restart, I have to re-activate it. Is there a way to keep it active?

Also, I see a lot of joking around about the tailgate dampeners. Is it a mod worth doing? It's not like I don't have enough strength to drop or lift the gate. One of my past F150's had one and I thought it was a nice feature.

I have a lid and steps on the way. Should be here in the next week. We sold our travel trailer a couple years ago and now will only be towing the old car to a couple out of state events a year. I do a lot of bowhunting so it will be handy for that and of course there is Minnesota winter. I don't think I need to explain that to anyone. We get plenty of winter here.

One more thing...I inspected the truck closely and don't have bad overhang on the hood and door alignment is good as well as bumper and tailgate. I do have some wind noise on the passenger front door though. Didn't notice this on test drive though as it was all surface street. It is only at highway speeds. Thoughts?

No plans for tunes or suspension mods at this point. I like the way the truck looks. It handles well also.

Thanks for any insight.

Hi nice truck, best of luck with it. I am quite happy with mine, it does what I want and its pretty good in winter. We've had some decent snowfall around here this winter and it handles itself fine. I did swap out the rear shocks for Eibach and the improvement was immediate and worth the money if I did nothing else.

Enjoy!

You have a lariat so it comes with sound glass windshield. My 21 lariat doesn’t have noticeable wind noise. It’s actually pretty quiet with some road noise. Also check your tire pressure, mine was over inflated. Check the window and door seals closely..

Welcome to the club! Great truck.
I think there is a setting you can make in FORSCAN that makes the gear indicator always active. But I have not done it to confirm My laptop is a POS, so I rarely drag it out to do stuff like that. Windows 10 always takes over the computer for ten or twenty minutes to "update" when the thing I want to do is a five minute job. LOL

Welcome to the club!! Here are some pointers

#1 if you dont get a damper you will be considered for the ban list by none other that @AzScorpion (I might be on that list too LOL)

#2 we will somehow magically cause you too spend lots of money on your truck.... It's just going to happen so you might as well accept it!!

Now to the fun stuff

That I am aware of the gear indicator has to be turned on each ignition cycle or every other cycle. A pain but its what it is.

For the damper, thats your call. With nothing dont to the tailgate its probably fine. Add something heavy like the Hurican Fab Tailgate Storage then you will want to at least consider.

I wont argue that the Ranger has good power from the factory but dont be suprised if you want to increase said power later on, it happens to all of us!!

The suspension, well let's just say there are plenty of options and it will depend on what you do to what will suit your needs when that point comes.

All in all we all hope you enjoy the Ranger

The Cliff Notes version is:

Get yourself a tune and a damper and hang out with the cool guys or stay stock. If the later then you'll have to tell all your friends that you're hanging out with a dancing banana. o_O ?

welcome, nice truck! on the highway wind noise just sucks in rangers. ive ridden in 4 of the 5gs and all of them had it. its not terrible, but if you go from a car that was designed to minimize road and wind noise then hop in a ranger you may be sad. i notice it more when i go from the bmw to the ranger or when i have music on while on the highway then exit to a slower road and find myself turning down the stereo since its too loud.

No damper. No tune. But mine actually gets dirty. Never cared to be part of the cool crowd. As Groucho Marx said, “I don’t want to belong to any club that would have me as a member”.

You can adjust the door latch, aka the silver thing on the B pillar to adjust the door. Bring it in a little.

Loosen the bolts, bring it in a tad, tighten, test, readjust if necessary.

My front passenger door was too inwards and it didn't like to close easily.

Music too loud? Come on, I know you like car audio too. That’s blasphemy
